Frank will never, ever admit a mistake. No matter how much he has to twist his own words, and how many insults and lies he has to use. Imagine how much more effective that insult would be if you had actually presented any evidence at all that I was wrong about anything. Your last great assault on m...

Unless of course the king's personal assassin has kill on sight orders and attacks before the players can even claim to have kidnapped the princess. Then you have diplomancy in the middle of combat, trying to stop the killing. RR doesn't really help with that, unless of course we're stating "fo...

But SR4 has a decent social system. Ehn. . . That it can also, for some edge cases, serve as a rape mechanic, doesn't change that the social mechanics work pretty well. I'm not entirely sold on your first statement here, so I'm not entirely sold on the rest either. Trying to condemn PL's system sol...

Resistance tests are pretty much limited to damage, fading and spell resistance tests, and are labeled as such throughout the book. The opposed test in social situations is not called a resistance test anywhere. That's the same in SR4 too, not just SR4A. So, making an argument about how an opposed t...

Frank claimed Blade was wrong. I simply showed that no, Blade was correct. And then I asked if SR4 was fucked up according to his own standards. It's not picking at the game - I love SR4 - it's picking at Frank's claim. It's not even that - as Frank stated, it doesn't even matter if SR4/A is Wrong ...

Please note that Frank completely ignores the fact that he was wrong about Shadowrun. SR4 is according to his own standards "fucked up", since resisting a seduction attempt is affected by wound modifiers (opposed test, not resistance test). I know you're incapable of not being a jackass, ...

SR4A: Seduction is a specialization of con Con checks are opposed by the target's con or negotiation and Intuition. Note, it's an opposed test, not a resistance rest. Wound modifiers apply therefore. So, SR4A is fucked up? People who pick at (Blank)'s Favorite Game like it means anything on TGD alw...

deaddms claim that not knowing anything about a guard at all until after the reaction roll helps him with his desire to allow player actions to matter. I don't normally know the motivations of all 32 guards until they matter . When they matter is based on when the PCs choose to engage them. If they...

Becoming friends after a drawn-out fight that resulted in one losing but both ending up quite beaten up is quite common in fighting mangas. Hey, you know what else is common? [*] One of the combatants being provoked into a homicidal rage after a drawn-out fight (Fight Club, Star Wars) [*] The comba...

This is changing the subject (thank fucking God) but one of my pet peeves is the meme floating around these boards that 'beating someone in combat = friendship'. That's fucking retarded. People don't make friends, even in the middle of a sword duel, by getting their ass kicked. They do it by respec...

Fuck, did you even read a single goddam word of what I said? A system is bad if it mechanically incentivizes rapey behaviour. D&D does not mechanically incentivize rapey behaviour because people are not more likely to want to have sex with you after you punch them in the face. That is it. That ...

Because if you make it less rapey, possibly even not rapey, no one will call it rapey. But notice the distinction is not whether rape is possible, it is whether it mechanically incentivizes rapey behavior. If anyone wants to commit rape in the game, there are already easy to use ways through mind c...

I really don't get this whole "it allows rape" complaint. As was pointed out before, D&D allows rape already by allowing characters to knock foes unconscious. It also allows rape through mind control spells. Having the "saved one" falling for the "rescuer" or the wo...

The only thing being discussed right now is whether or not a created social minigame should allow the DM to decide by fiat that the enemies are totally invulnerable to social action and no social rolls get to take place before the combat music begins. That's already been answered with "Yes, of...

Fuchs and Zugschef have declared that their desire is straight Oberoni. That rules are not desired and that not-rules are their preference. They dislike the notion at base of having rules for the social game. I said I don't see the need for a reaction roll, not to jettison the entire social mechani...

That's untrue. People want to use social mechanics but think the RR is either not a good idea, or is impossible to implement in any form that's not simply MTP in disguise.

If you're instead thinking that RR rolls are necessary to avoid any situation where Social Characters can't be social then you are arguing that every encounter ever be randomized because there are quite a few monsters that disallow for Socializing that can be shoe horned in at any time. If you're n...

We have guidelines about how many encounters should be equal to the CR, higher CR and lower CR in the DMG. One can easily add guidelines to the DMG what percentage of encountrs should offer social opportunities. Just because one doesn't Need a Frank-approved dice table for every Thing doesn't mean o...

If you'd rather have a rule, add "The GM should make sure that social-specced characters can use their skills some of the time" to the rule book.

The social character isn't demanding to get their way 100% of the time, they are asking to get their way some of the time. And without a die roll to roll, the only way they can do that is by arguing. In a decent group they do not need to argue, since the GM will make sure they get their way some of...

I don't use reaction rolls, but I am fond of using dice to check if the players are lucky or unlucky in a number of situations. Crash through a skylight after a battle on the roof? Maybe you land in the middle of a deal between two street gangs, all tensed up and jumpy and armed. Or maybe you land r...

You can always place the inn on the road, and then give the players the choice of either taking rooms at the inn with the sexy bisexual identical twins they heard about, or take the other road and use the inn with the grumpy dwarf veteran/sleep outside. But taking the left or right road is not a mea...
