How much is a Ghost worth?

In a 3.5 D&D game, when would it be level appropriate for a PC to play an Incorporeal character, like a Ghost?

For Giggles, lets examine that. You could just have everyone have the same number of limited resources (and have those be of same overall importance) That sounds suspiciously like 4th edition D&D, and the 1 or One Billion per encounter power/day powers is retarded as it is insulting to the metag...

Who are we kidding? If there exists a mechanic for resource replemishment, a player will do whatever it takes to begin a life or death situation at full strength. D+D: Wands of Cure Light Wounds are cheap as free, and a command word amulet that casts cure minor wounds as a standard action all day lo...

From a balance perspective, it is a nigh impossibility to adequatly "challenge" a group of 4 player characters against a number of 1 + n encounters (where n in a non-zero number) within the constraints of a an extended period . Hour, day, year, decade, centuary, millineum, the ammount of t...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that fatigue recharge schemes such as encounters per day or fatigue points per hour marching/spell slung/sword swing are retarded, unless you can some how take into account the 5 minute adventuring workday.

That's a particularly harsh houserule. By 2e RAW, at every level (or maybe just when you got a new spell level), you got to roll to know any spell in the PHB, and you could go down your list of choices until you found one that stuck. The problem with that is that a wizard does not get any free spel...

Does not Elven Spell Lore (PHB II) apply to a specific spell? Though since I'm away from my books for two days, I don't recall how it applies.

I want the spell casters to think. Not say "lighting bolt! lighting bolt! lighting bolt! lighting bolt! lighting bolt!" -_-;; Which is seriously one of the most boring things that people think spell casters should do. And yet the popularity of Warlocks, Blaster Sorcerers, and the entire c...

Clarification may be needed. What I meant was: "should be a swift action to cast, and you should be able to re cast it a number of times equal to your caster level with the use of one spell slot in the following rounds ." So you are a 5th level wizard and cast fireball . It takes a swift a...

How to make direct damage worth a spell slot

So I'm sitting in church, and then * BAM * it hits me: Direct damage instantanious spells (such as magic missile, scorching ray, fireball, cone of cold, disintegrate, and meteor swarm) should be a swift action to cast, and you should be able to cast it a number of times equal to your caster level wi...

High ability scores would mean something if they meant anything, at all. Seriously, the most stringent admission price to the paladin class is the 17 charisma which... lets you have 10 henchmen and get you +6 reaction for encounter hostility. Having a 15 in an 2e ability score means shit , you dont ...

6th and 7th level Priest spells have a lot of overlap with 7th, 8th, and 9th level wizard spells (I'm looking at you Gate and Symbol ), but the paladin specifically ony has minor acces to like 4 priestly spheres (which means they cap out at 4th level spells), with a delayed progression to boot that ...

The deal with 2e Paladins.

I heard expressed before that the 2e Paladin kicks ass. But what specificially puts him head and shoulders above a Priest (Cleric or Druid), Wizard, Wizard/Rogue, or Fighter/Cleric? Is it just the Holy Avenger and Mount (which I admit could be a flying creature at higher levels), or am I missing som...

That's kind of the entire point. When you have a tin can, on a dragon who cares about the tin can? But the question was asked: "Is there a pre-existing mechanic for this?" Now you and I both know that a dragon is, strictly speaking, weak sauce, it will never cast any spells that matter and...

So you want to ride a dragon?

Read the special mount rules in the back of the DMG, roll up an 11+ level Paladin, then roll up his character sheet and smoke that sweet, sweet cheese. Seriously. A Paladin can have a flying mount that is 4 CRs lower than his level. A very young gold dragon is CR 7. Did I mention that this gold drag...
