But this was the most dubious part: Some choices then—such as whether a character has a long list of skills and feats; or skills, feats, and powers; or just ability scores, hit points, Armor Class, and an attack bonus—are up to the player. Good luck balancing a long list of skills, feats and powers...

If anything what they need is a fixed rule to stop the monsters fucking about, then give most PC classes an exemption to it when they're playing their shtick. But then, there could be "skirmisher" monsters whose shtick is exactly "hard to pin down" I keep having ideas that a dec...

This only leads to labels on RPG/Fantasy books saying: "WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CAN CAUSE CRITICAL THINKING ABOUT RELIGIONS."

Do you think this is too idiotic to happen? Think again.

You're not from Seattle, are you? *that's where my buddy's from, and that pretty much exactly sums up his matrix. Nope, Brazilian here. (huehuehuehue) But maybe this kind of system comes almost intuitively to young, mathematically naive people who heard about RPGs. You "get" that there's ...

What did they call it? Ki/Qi/Chi?
I'm okay with the "anime" power source.

OK, an attack progression and a damage progression. You have to have that to roll dice at the table, and dice were rolled. Not necessarily. They easily could've done what a buddy of mine does when he DMs -- he doesn't really care what's on your character sheet ... he just looks at what # came up on...

Yeh, it's pretty clear that they can't deliver on any of the promises being made so far. Now, maybe they will scale back their promises, set some actually attainable goals, and then produce a product to meet those goals, but I doubt it. I mean, Monte's latest article is extremely disheartening. It'...

It depends what you mean by vaporware. If you mean something that's about 15% finished and could be completely scrapped and rewritten at any moment (e.g. the long, painful saga of Duke Nukem Forever), then sure, I suspect that's probably the case. If you mean something that doesn't exist at all bey...

http://www.enworld.org/forum/news/317318-seminar-transcript-charting-course-edition-all-editions.html So what have we learned from this? Based on that comment about "the basic orc will remain relevant", I can see leveling up not mattering. At all. The Oblivion-style level scaling begins! ...

Re: Redated class acts: This was... quite something, in fact. I couldn't find any info about this article on the Web, so it seems they swept it under the rug. Re: Psionics power points I see... But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Bruce Cordell wrote the one and only Class Acts article that WotC has ever apologized for and redacted . Yes, he fucked up his "read the rules" check so hard when writing a fucking puff piece on line that it actually caused people to be incensed eno...

Don't forget that it was Tasslehoff who wounded an Eldritch Abomination by stabbing it in the toe.

And players going to a god in person to talk stuff is totally a common theme in FR, but no one can match Elminster whispering horny things into a goddesses' ear and bend her to his penis. So, about action points: If IC the character knows they can "challenge fate" or "trust their luck" if they still have APs, then is the AP mechanic (I use APs for re-rolls mostly) still dissociative? About FoM, I'm curious to see how Frank and K would state this spell using the ta...

While Chaosium products do have Mythos monsters cause "sanity loss", that's not really how things go in the books. You don't look at a bunch of Shoggoths and suddenly decide that you need to start counting spiderwebs to make sure they add up to even numbers. The actual enemy, as it is in ...

The solution for this, of course, is to make the Mahabharata required reading for prospective martial players.

No wait, this would be Exalted.
