Re: Wizards informally announces 5.5 edition
2024! Wow! They must be doing a lot of playtesting and rigorous mathematics to make sure everything is as tight as possible!

Re: Magic Item Creation
Something that this general concept of could maybe fit well for is a competitive cooking game. Where players are all about their special recipes and techniques for preparing dishes and go about gathering rare ingredients to do battle with their culinary masterpieces. If you do something like this t...

Re: Magic Item Creation
You know what's fun and engaging? Powergaming. How can I abuse this system for power and/or profit? That's what people really want out of crafting systems. That and the ability to amass tons of staple adventuring items like potions and wands and whatnot, but that's more out of necessity than enjoyme...

Re: Why no Classplosion in 5e?
It doesn't help that this particular topic is still depressingly relevant nearly 7 years later. One of the few ways I can stomach 5e is with homebrew/third party classes. What happened?

Re: 5E: Summons still suck
How many times is it the case that getting extra actions isn't an extremely powerful option, though? Having more opportunities to exploit the situation is a very good generic ability. Extra attacks, multicasting, free reactions... it's all good shit in my experience. Maybe I'm missing the forest for...

Re: 5E: Summons still suck
Funny, one of the things I was playing with for my Pokemon RPG (may it rise from its grave) was that each player has 2 turns due to trainer/pokemon being separately controllable, and that's a big balance point. When a trainer gets totally punked and still has a Pokemon out, before they go unconsciou...

You might as well ask what happens when Ash's Pikachu tries to throw a Master Ball at Mewtwo. The setting typically implodes.

Re: 5E: Summons still suck
One would assume that a system capable of letting players control NPCs would make a distinction between mundane mercenaries you buy at an inn versus summoning demons from the hell versus conjuring 50 sentient flying daggers.

Re: 5E: Summons still suck
What's the difference between summoning a human with a sword and shield via magick versus giving him like... 100 gold? There are two important distinctions. One, the spell gives a reason why your summon remains loyal unto death and follows your commands even when it loses all its hit points doing s...

I really feel the world would be a better place if we would stop being the fuckin baddies. If we are going to depose (or, more likely, support) a dictator for our interests then let the rest of the world punish us for being meddling murderous assholes, or if a situation was so bad that we are oblig...

Re: Size Difference in RPGs
Not seeing much talk on the advantage of being a small creature. It sucks for the "default" medium size if they don't have any bonuses, but that's honestly something I can live with if it means big creatures are tough and bad at stealth while small creatures are hard to hit and good at ste...

Re: Chrono Cross is still one of the worst games ever.
Huh. Odd. I must have dabbled with so many JRPGs I confused CC's combat for some kind of "hit X at the right time, if dead-on you get a Crit, otherwise you miss" game that looked almost the same. Might have been Legend of Legaia, although that game had more of a fighting game combo system...

Re: The Biden Administration (No Lago)
Kamala Harris hired a new coms director, and he is now having to delete all his tweets. Because he used to call for undocumented immigrants on news shows to be carted off by ICE mid segment, and post about how Bush torturing people is was fine because it was "for our country." Sounds like...
