D&D's birthday PDF giveaway.

Post by Josh_Kablack »

Linky: http://www.d20source.com/

It's a small online company, but everything I've seen from these guys has at least been worth the read, so it's hard to pass up free.

Plus I'm embarrassed that I didn't know the precise anniversary myself :o

The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

Hey, that's JD! He's posted here before, and I talk to him on MSN a lot. Great guy, good website. I'm surprised he didn't come post this here himself. :P

TheLe stuff started a bit amateurish, although I've heard their quality has improved. But yeah - you can't beat free.

Sweeet.

I'll snag and read.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Okay, yesterday, they were giving away a small book with a lot of magic items in it.

Most of them are dumb. Some of them are sort of cool--I like the Wickerman, a figurine which summons a wicker man (use Ogre stats).

Today, they're giving away a book called Pimp My Paladin. It has two base classes in it. They appear to suck. It also has a Prestige Class. It also sucks, since it gives half of what the Paladins gets.

It has some okay items and spells in it. Except for this:

Smite the very Air
Abjuration [Good]
Level: Pal 4
Components: V
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Personal
Area: 20-ft.-radius emanation centered on you
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: Reflex partial or None; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes
You call upon the divine power vested in you to permeate the air.
The air sparkles with a muted divine presence that is painful to those
that are evil. All creatures within this radius gain the benefits of protection from evil. In addition evil creatures are damaged by this holy power. Each round an evil creature remains within this emanation it receives 1d4 damage +1 for every two caster levels you have. If an evil
creature is within this area when the spell is cast it may make a Reflex save to avoid the effects of this spell until its own turn. On its
next action the creature must leave the emanation or take the damage on your next turn.
On the other hand, there's a cape (dedicated to a specific god. As in, there can be a cape of Pelor or a cape of Hieroneous or whatever) which lets Pallies and Rangers who worship that god get domain powers and they can prepare domain spells

There's an artifact equipment set which gives more bonuses/synergy the more you get it. The armor also scales, but caps at +5. Its synergy is that you get damage reduction only penetrated by Good-aligned attacks. The damage reduction is equal to the bonus of the armor, and starts at DR 0/good.

No, I'm not making that up.

What's wrong with a damage aura at level 12?

The damage is -really- low. You're level 14 (had to look up when 4th level spells come online) when you can get this spell. You're doing 1d4 + 1/2 caster level. So that's 1d4 + 1/4 your character level.

1d4 + 3, in other words.

The protection from Evil effect is a lot stronger than that.

And that doesn't live up the name of Smite the Very Air. THAT name should be making the air explode and do burst damage like a sunburst or something.

The kind of damage you have there...well, you could use it to cook an egg. If it's an evil egg.

Well, it's something you fire off and then run around annoying people with.

You're right, it should do caster level d something to at least be annoying.

It lasts 7 rounds and takes one of your highest level spell slots and a standard action in combat to cast.

Just cast Magic Circle against evil from a third level slot, have it last a long time, and find a 4th level spell that will add more than 7 damage.

It's not like Paladin do much with their highest slots. Magic Circle and Magic Weapon are like their best spells.

MCaE takes a while to cast.

Smite the Air -does- have the benefit of being a standard action.

But it fails to do what it's supposed to. You cast it on the fly because you're in an enclosed space, to give your party the Protection from Evil benefits. Not to damage anything that might be near you.

Huh. I could have sworn MCaE takes longer. I guess I was remembering Consecrate. My bad there.

Anyway, Magic Air Against Evil would probably be worth the slot and action if it did Xd6 + X, with X equal to caster level, and affected monsters as the zone hit them so you could set the air around you on fire and go zig-zag through the encounter. At level 14, an automatic 7d6+7 to all the evil critters within 20 feet of you every round isn't too bad. And it should be renamed Glorious Radiance or something.

Next PDF is "17 Archer Feats"
Aim for the Clouds [General]
You are able disrupt a spellcaster with a well placed shot.

Prerequisites: Base Attack Bonus 1+, Initiative 2+

Benefit: Once per encounter, you may use one iterative attack to fire an arrow up into the air and cause it to strike an enemy spell caster as they are finishing their incantation in the same round. This is a standard ranged attack; a successful attack this way causes no damage, but forces the target to your attacks to gain an advantage make a successful Concentration check (DC of 10 + half your level) or else they lose the spell they are trying to cast.

Special: A fighter may select Aim for the Clouds as one of his fighter bonus feats.
Is this worse than Eagle Claw Attack? I think it might be.

Well, it doesn't say you have to roll an attack to force the concentration roll... And it seems to mean you don't need line of sight but merely line of effect.

...Still, that is pretty weaksauce. Once per round, sure, but encounter?

It says it's a standard ranged attack, but does no damage. And you need a successful attack.

A 14 Con Wizard at level 1 is making a DC 10 check with his +6 mod, already a 85% success chance. And even just counting ranks and nothing else, they just get better at twice the rate you do. Until level 7 when they auto succeed for ever.

FAIL ALERT!

Or you can just ready an action to do a meaningful concentration check and damage.

EDIT: I mean, at level 20, you are forcing a DC 20 skill check to have them cast a spell. A level 1 Wizard can make that check more often than your 3.5 archer crits.

I signed up there and downloaded the free Le games stuff. Sounds like it will mostly be sifting through poop to find a piece of corn here or there (it'll still be good, right?). But I was just amused that I put down "The Gaming Den" as where I heard about the RPG Now site from (I had heard about it before, but probably did find it originally through here ages ago).

Yeah, we can become a group that people market to!

Yes. Hence not mentioning it in my first reply.

So if you hit them with your spare arrow, you'd probably be more likely to interrupt the spell, right?

Well the be fair 90% of what the Le Games makes is pure shit. Sometimes they make a broken ass feat and on a blue moon they make a feat they would be fun to stick on an NPC just to see it in action.
