MacGyver Skills?

Post by angelfromanotherpin »

Way back in
[counturl=73]this[/counturl] thread, one of the roles for a party member was the Specialist whose job it is to 'MacGyver' stuff with an extensive skill list.

What kind of skills would be on that list?

Methinks Frank was thinking more of this.

No, I'm pretty sure he was talking about skills.

If you are a Specialist, you get a very big skill list, and your class features are all skill related - you get 8 skill points a level.

I'm intrigued by the concept, as it's not one I've really seen in play, and I'm wondering if the skills he's talking about are Disable Device, plus Knowledge(Architecture and Engineering), plus Use Rope, plus a bunch of Craft skills; or if it's something completely different.

Problem with jury rigging is that it's going to be stuff not covered by the rules, which is difficult to adjudicate at best.

Second, if you can produce something awesome in 5 minutes, why can't you just mass produce the stuff? In fact, every time you make something, it just goes on your belt to be used for a rainy day, especially if it's effective.

It's tough to play MacGyver, as eventually you'll just end up turning into Batman.

MacGyver is Batman.
The Gaming Den; where Mathematics are rigorously applied to Mythology.

While everyone's Philosophy is not in accord, that doesn't mean we're not on board.

Except that MacGyver doesn't re-use his equipment. He re-creates it on the fly for every occasion. Batman has supercool specialized gizmos that hang around from scene to scene and adventure to adventure, and has ridiculous one-offs that he either creates or just happens to have handy at the right moment.

Mechanically, they're probably covered under the same rules, but the flavor is different enough that some people might get their panties in a twist about it.

Ah, but that's just Batman trying to fool you, don't you see? He makes it seem like he and MacGyver have different schticks, but really, he's one and the same, and so he's doing to make it seem like they're different people.

Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, aka Angus MacGyver!
