Οἰ κατθανόντες μόνοι ἑώρακαν τέλος πολέμου

Ulm must lack steel, for only the dead know peace.

Clearly ignorance will be Pangaea's undoing. For they think that love can be bought, Ulm has no steel, and that there is no such thing as Necromancy.

Speaking of map, I feel like I have to zoom out until monsters are invisible before I can get a clear sense of borders/boundaries. Am I missing a trick?

σοφός

You have no steel to offer Pangaea then? Only banal sophistry?

Eris is displeased.

OOC: Pressing '?' will bring up a list of commands, including the map interface hotkeys.

The borders on my map are marked a bold red and I have no issue seeing the icons on my corner of the map, though I probably have only 15% of the total map in view at any once time.

Hey, it's not banal sophistry. It's actually originally a Roman quotation. When a Gallic army tried to attack Rome, a Roman Consul was advised to simply bribe the Gauls away. The Consul replied: "Rome buys its peace with iron, not gold."

And yes, the Romans won the subsequent battle.

(Also, this does not meant Ulm is averse to any peace deals. But asking for bribes a few turns into the game is right out)

Σοφή ἐστι ἡ φύσις

The Laws of Nature are just, but terrible. There is no weak mercy in them. Cause and consequence are inseparable and inevitable. The elements have no forbearance. The fire burns, the water drowns, the air consumes, the earth buries.

Pangaea's judgements are as unerring.

Man, those victory points are subtle. How many do we need again?

Apparently, one of my commanders decided to not take troops to battle. That was embarrassing.

21 VPs total, 9 to win.

People shouldn't worry too much while everyone just has 2 at most.

Ok, so I'm taking The Mirks next turn. Demon monkeys take no responsibility for any meeting battles.

Also taking a caveman province and a cavalry province.

Yeah, we actually received your statement you were going into Tevinter the turn we both arrived in Tevinter. A thin pile of Sauromatian archers is great for snaffling weak neutrals, but unfortunately does nothing at all to tiger headed demons.

Sorry man, I didn't expect you to want something so far from your capital.

Is this map really small, or am I just wedged in between three empires?

The literal distance between any empires is 3 provinces. That means that every faction can take one province from their capital and touch other empires that do the same.

There are about 12 land provinces per player, so it's not really small. The empires are just fairly evenly distributed across it and every capital has a bunch of connections. Those two combined mean that the shortest distance between empires is never that many provinces.

Man, Bakemono Chieftains are just awesome utility scout/commanders. I had not noticed that before.

They're not entirely great scouts, as the 20 cost scout is cheaper and has better stealth. You'll lose them to patrollers much more often. Forest/Mountain survival is awesome though.

But yes, they're quite versatile. They're in fact "strictly better" than the standard indie commander since they're at the same cost.

Frank, you can take the province next to your capital. I didn't put any PD in it.

Twelve provinces, my ass. I'll be lucky to get nine, and I'm a bless Rush power.

I think something weird happened with a couple of the start locations, based on where I see crowns. But nobody complained, and Sauromatia, Abysia, Lanka, and Pangaea are all definitely in standard start locations. My advice to you would be to expand East, because there's damn little over there as near as I can see.

Right now I'm more worried about having found no magic sites at all so far. It's not like we haven't been looking.

East is all Ulm. I have no place to expand to.

Yep, I'm to the east of Lanka.

And I've already tried to give K some extra breathing room by not contesting a couple of indie provinces and expanding along the Amaranthine islands. Lanka really has a problematic start position from what I can see, as our area is crowded by nations who have expanded diligently.

Sauromatia -

Border negotiations? I'm happy to have them by PM or here in the thread.

Which ones are the Amaranthine islands?

You'll forgive me, but I actually haven't found Fomoria yet, so I don't know that it is possible for us to negotiate in good faith at present.

The ones around the Amaranthine ocean.
