So, appearantly, MGS5 is shipped on a single DVD.
Which only has the Steam installer on it . . the hell?

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

I thought we stopped doing that for Steam games years ago. That was the same thing that happened for the Orange Box.

Konami. Every negative thing that can be said about a company fits into that single word.

But clearly this was made for the people who can download the gigabytes of gamefiles (don't care about it enough to bother with checking) and couldn't fit the few megabytes required to download Steam itself into their download cap. All two of them...

Don't get me wrong, I love digital distribution, but this trend where they're shipping out games incomplete (requiring 5-10GB of data download after install - lookin' at you, GTAV PC, on top of a six-disc, three hour installation process) or just shipping with a Steam key/steam installer is troubling. Not all of us have good connections - I'm in a rural area so I'm stuck on 1.5 megabit wifi. Forcing me to download your game after I've bought a physical copy is a sure sign of me wanting a fucking refund or not buying games from you in the future.

Shadow of the Colossus
Image

Here's a list of things I've done with D-Horse:

-Tried to cinematically leap onto D-Horses back and missed ever so slightly so it turned into a flying boot to his head knocking him out.

--Encountered a sheep and ride D-Horse full speed into the sheep. The sheep is KO'd and ballooned back to motherbase.

-Encountered a bear and ride D-Horse full speed into the bear. The bear is KO'd, D-Horse is KO'd as I go flying. The bear is ballooned back to motherbase

-Chasing a jeep on the road by cutting through rocky terrain, leaping full speed into the driver's side of the jeep, KO'ing the driver who then flies into the road while I shoot the passenger with a tranq.

-Command D-Horse to poop, then tell a captured soldier to lie down on the poop.

When I saw that flowchart I thought you were being sarcastic, but upon examination, yeah, that's genuinely pretty great. The only thing I might see as a problem is restrain/throw being the same button as pummel, might end up punching someone you want to grab or grabbing someone you want to punch.

The flowchart is really weird.
First you pummel someone unconscious then steal their weapon and after that you can surprise and disarm them (not sure why you'd want to disarm them twice)

You have the option of knocking them out at that step, but may instead disarm, threaten, and interrogate them.

The graph has a hidden node labelled "knocked the fuck out" that it doesn't bother to draw. If you allow your pummel to continue to completion, the opponent will be knocked the fuck out (and you can do nothing further to them until they wake up). If you interrupt your pummel by pressing the aim button, you will stop knocking them the fuck out, steal their gun, and point it at them.

That said, I do have the sudden urge to try neutral -> pummel -> disarm -> hold up -> restrain -> neutral -> pummel -> disarm -> etcetera, etcetera. How many times can I disarm the same man? What even happens? I suspect later disarms will just not happen and it'll go back to neutral.

I've had a lot of trouble performing throws reliably. Which is bad, because throws are the only CQC move which can be chained on multiple enemies, meaning if you want to take down two guys standing next to eachother without giving either time to respond it has to be a throw. I suspect both pummel and grab have priority over throw, so it needs to be a single quick press and stop.

I don't think you can disarm more than once, because you can't disarm someone who is unarmed.

It turns out that you draw your own gun and point that at them instead. Note that that's a coded gameplay mechanic and not an emergent result of interrupting a pummel by pressing the aim button; if you have something unsuitable equipped (such as an empty magazine), you will switch to a gun instead of aiming with what you have.

Meanwhile, while the rest of the world is ahead of me playing MGSV, I'm stuck playing Metal Gear Solid.

Never played it when I was a kid. Or any Metal Gear not on an NES, with the soul exception of Metal Gear Rising.

Some months ago, I bought the Metal Gear Solid legacy thing for the PS3, downloaded 1.

Then my controller promptly died.

Now that I have a new controller, I just did the Gray Fox fight after about 400 tries and then got to sit through Otacon's NUKES R BAD speech.

I guess I'll plow through the whole series and catch up to the rest of the gaming world--these are a bit of a gap in my education.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

My knowledge of MGS consists almost entirely of Snake's appearance in Brawl. That, and I often mix up the names Metal Gear with Metal Slug. Stupid names.

Re: Koumei

Well, I beat the world's most masochistic cyborg. That was pretty weird.

I would have stopped fighting him if I could.

So, I got Splatoon the other day, and I really like it. It's a fun shooter, and I really like the style. However, everything aside from the story mode is reliant on having an internet connection... which is terrible because my Wii U hates the internet, a problem which I've been trying to fix fruitlessly for six months. So I can't buy gear, I can't participate in Splatfests or turf wars... why did anyone think it was a good idea to make a game that reliant on an internet connection?

I sell guns. Lots of guns. Machine guns, Mortars, Anti-Aircraft guns. Tanks. Whatever.

The Plague Knight DLC is out.

If you got it from GOG or a couple other places, you have to re-download the game (remember with ~140 megs was a big download?). It keeps your save files, but for some reason it didn't have it unlocked so I used the code as seen there.

It's definitely a gameplay difference. For one, PK slides to a stop when he's moving. He's slower than Shovel Knight, it feels like, and his natural jump isn't as high. He does, however, have a double jump and one of his key mechanics is the Bomb Burst, where you hold down the attack button and you can get a jump off of that as high as your double jump.

You have bombs as your primary weapon, and you get different ingredients for them--cases give different throws (like rolling on the ground, arcing, or floating upward on a sort of exponential curve), powders change the shape of the explosion, and fuses mess with how it behaves.

The game is mostly the same areas, but PK gets his own gadgets (instead of a fishing pole, he gets an exploding fish he throws down the fishing holes) and there's a couple of areas for him each level that I've seen (I just took out King Knight and Specter Knight).

You also get to see Mona the town alchemist dancing!
