I just need to vent. Mozilla adjusts its language settings based on your "current location" rather than your "prefered language" - meaning that all Mozilla Menus are written in technical Czech. This is less than worthless and completely retarded.

More seriously, have you checked the support forums at mozilla.org. There's probably a way to fix that in about:config.

I've noticed Google, because at work it sometimes appears as though I'm in Israel (when our main server fails over to corporate headquarters, which gives me an Israeli IP address). I've never had Firefox do that, though.

Google always sets my search language to Croatian the first time i start a browser after a reinstall. The first hits are then in Croatian as well. Those few that it can find.

No problem in Vietnam with mozilla but I don't think vietnamese is available. Google does often bounce to its vietnamese page though

You sure about that?

I just set my clock setting to brazilia, kuwait, new delhi, and kabul. each time with a comp reset added in as well. I had nothing change.

It might be because of something else or I might be missing something.

Regarding the situation though, yeah, that's retarded.

Yeah, it looks like, on the mozilla.com home page, you get a download link to whatever version they think you need based on your clock settings. If you click on the "Other Systems and Languages" link right below the download button, you get a table of Firefox versions in different languages for all three major OSes.

At least, I'm assuming that's what shirak was getting at after digging around mozilla.com.

Also once you have this thrice damned language pack it will helpfully load it for you based on clock settings. You can't just download the English version, you have to delete the other language options.

Sorry if I was unclear.

If you select the default download of Firefox, it will set the downloaded language pack based on your clock settings. Once this has happened, simply downloading and installing your preferred language pack is insufficient, because it will then reload the language pack based on your clock settings if it is available.

So what you have to do is delete the old language pack entirely, and then install the right language pack. Because as long as it is on your computer somewhere, Firefox will helpfully find it for you and put everything into illegible Western Slavic.

It's a solvable problem, it's just retarded because your computer has a language preference in addition to a clock setting and they could get the same functionality they are trying for without being really annoying by simply checking the correct value.

I've reformatted my computer and the damn google tool bar search window is automatically going to the Vietnamese Google website which has limited search options. Any way to change this anyone knows about?

I wish. Being in Czech Republic, my toolbar opens up google.cz - it works but it gives me search results with more porn than I'm necessarily looking for. I think it has something to do with this.

That google trends thing is pretty sweet, I never knew about it.

The toolbar thing just pisses me off because it won't show financial searches from google.com.vn and so I have to go back to google.ca (can't go to .com because it redirects to .com.vn) before doing a search. I've never seen real vietnamese made porn (rather than porn including Vietnamese) so I'm not sure if it's worth getting too much of or not. If it's anything like chinese softcore, no thanks.

You do realize that the toolbar search is a component which can be replaced, yes?

Also... Google does the redirect, not the browser. Change your google settings. (Yes, you can do that)
