I just binged the series up to episode 9. The griffin in question says it's part lion, part man, and part eagle, and refers to itself as the last remaining female. Luci responds by saying "you're a female?", to which said cryptid responds "Gender is a spectrum."
Regarding the series as a whole, I didn't really find anything that was transphobic. Overall, I liked it. The show's not great or anything, but it's better than the Simpson's has been recently.
On a completely different track, I fucking hate auto-correcting. My fucking tablet tried to "correct" every instance of "the" into "thus". Thus fuck.
I typed out "the" and it did it again! Fucking Amazon.

Having seen the final episodes of Disenchantment, it didn't get any funnier, but it did get a lot more interesting, with some genuinely good story. My guess is that the show had a deal of executive meddling because a lot of the humor, mostly the 'wacky' stuff, feels obligatory and forced, which is why it falls flat. I hope it's allowed to shed that if it continues.
Not at all. Sexualization can be and often is part of domination. Alex Jones hates trans people and wants them to suffer, but the fact that he wants them to suffer in a specific way has someone convinced people that he actually is somehow less transphobic.MGuy wrote:So speaking about transphobia does anyone else find it hilarious that Alex Jones' fans outed his interest in tgirl porn?
Plenty of misogynists are still sexually attracted to women.

That's libertarians for you - anarchists who want police protection from their slaves.
Considering that this is Alex Jones I've definitely heard more insane theories but no one would be able to convince me that this discovery makes him seem less transphobic. Perhaps it's just my sense of humor but I always find it funny when the crazies on the right are outed for things they label as sinful. The outright exposed hypocrisy and watching the squirming they have to do when they are outed is at least funny to me.

My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.
I agree with this. I found the show humorous. Not any real laugh out loud moments, but some chuckles and smiles. The transphobic part wasn't really that at all, it was more a clumsy joke that fell flat.angelfromanotherpin wrote:Having seen the final episodes of Disenchantment, it didn't get any funnier, but it did get a lot more interesting, with some genuinely good story. Ok, so what was the transphobic part, if you remember it well enough to have that opinion? Because it wasn't Griffin-man.Leress wrote:I agree with this. I found the show humorous. The Griffin was the only thing I can think of that was close to transphobic and it wasn't.Prak wrote:Ok, so what was the transphobic part, if you remember it well enough to have that opinion? Still working my way through, and willing to keep going. Early Futurama was pretty clumsy too -- remember that "You drank our emperor!" was a big enough laugh line to be the highlight of the episode preview. Also, trans-representation is still so crummy that I can't get upset about transphobia -- at least that's an acknowledgement that trans individuals exist.
My issues with the show so far are
1. Elfo and Luci are not full characters. They are supposed to be the angel/demon arguing on Bean's shoulders. Except Elfo doesn't argue back and Luci's lines are largely predictable. Thus a lot of their screen time has little payoff.
2. Bean and Zog have the only relationship with any depth in the show.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

Finished Disenchantment finally. I thought it was pretty good, I guess most of you have the same standards in entertainment that I do for sex: so extreme it can hardly be called that anymore. Not that there's anything wrong with that, some people like cartoons like Darling in the Franx, other people go through entire boxes of 18 gauge hypodermic needles in one evening. Make-a the world go 'round.
In this moment, I am Ur-phoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my int score.

Spiderverse? Does that mean Peter Parker isn't coming back after Infinity War?

Into the Spiderverse is not MCU, its an animated movie mostly about the ultimate universe and some mutli dimensional fuckery that pulls multiple spider people into the univese (Peter Parker, Gwen Stacey, Spider Ham, and over the top anime chick and some guy that looks more like Rorschach than Spider man)Omegonthesane wrote:

Spider-Man Noir is an established character, from the Marvel Noir line. Marvel Noir is a series of books that recast Marvel heroes in a hardboiled film noir setting. It's largely shit because some writers have trouble seeing the line between dark, grimdark, and just fucking stupid, but Spider-Man Noir is solid and Daredevil Noir hits it out of the park.
Spider-Verse was a crossover event comic a while ago throughout the Spider-Books that boasted "EVERY. SPIDER-MAN. EVER." It was okay. It spunoff several books of its own, including Spider-Verse and Spider-Gwen.
Like most big event comics in recent years, it's getting an adaptations that's better in every way.

Welcome, to IronHell.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.
The ending of the Life After podcast left me cold after what was otherwise an engaging suspense mystery.
Without giving too much away:
Without giving too much away:
The protagonist chooses to go back to his unstable borderline abusive spouse when the series felt like it had been building up to an overall theme of letting go and moving on. Even after finding out that said spouse faked her death for the sole purpose of causing him so much grief that he'd let himself be blackmailed into spying on his FBI workplace.
It would have been so much better finding out Charlie wasn't dead and then deciding to move on anyway. It's harder to let go of the living in a lot of ways, and it would have been a powerful note to end on.
