Under Paizo's new system, their skills are treated differently. Cross-class skills don't cost twice as much or anything like that. Instead, if you have one or more ranks in a class skill, you get a single +3 bonus to that skill (and they did away with the x4 at first level aspect for skill points).
So, in actuality, having a skill always be a class skill is worth even less than normal 3.5
Come see Sprockets & Serials
How do you confuse a barbarian?
Put a greatsword a maul and a greataxe in a room and ask them to take their pick

Hm. Ok, back to Total Fail it is. So much for finding any redeeming quality about them.
Some people like little BS bonuses to reward their backstory.
In my writing, I've been trying to give the bonuses names, so they'll not stack with the most egregious offenders of the RNG, or not stack in the case of going out of range.
The problem with that is by using some common bonus type, you're making permanent resources go obsolete over time... which means no one with any sense will ever touch them.
If the freebie 'you worked in apothecary' doesn't stack with 'you are a professional alchemist', you either don't take it, or your replace it. It was a freebie that filled in the gap.
