I actually had to buy an all new AR device when B/W came out. Which recently crapped the fuck out on me.
As far as the cable goes, there are other devices with the same port, cameras or cellphones I think, so I'd go look through the nearest (Upside Down equivalent of Frys/Best Buy/whatever).

Congratulations! RARARA evolved into Hydreigon!
So between level 60+ Hydreigon, level 60+ Tyranitar, and level 85+ Haxorus... I can probably go sweep the E4. Now I happen to also have some other high level critters to even the team out, including Jellicent (Disable; Leftovers; Scald/Ice Beam/Shadow Ball/Surf - and I was tempted to go Recover in place of Ice Beam, just to really do the "Dying is for other people" thing). The final two spots, once I'm there and can ignore HMs, could go to one of many - Leavanny "The Critmeister", Absol "I'll see your Critmeister and raise you one crit level", Electabuzz (or LighthouseSheep), Loppylugs...
The main reason, of course, being so that I can continue my career as a movie star. Being X time
King of the Ring, fashion model and the rest is just icing.
Also, when doing PWT, I can't help but imagine everyone getting entrance themes ala WWE. For me, I think Edge (Metalingus remix). For Elesa... it'd be a Lady Gaga song, wouldn't it?

Is it just me, or is the AR and it's ilk designed so as to only give gamers hope by promising them the chance of cheating their game to get goodies, only for it to be snatched away by the fact that those things are poorly designed pieces of shit?

I don't think they're poorly designed, or at least not overly so. Having to buy a newer model when B/W came out was annoying, but I don't really think that was an issue of poor design, and the crapping out is likely primarily due to my DS often riding around in my bag with the DS plugged in, and getting jostled/card pushed in and out, so the pins (for lack of a better term) fatigued.

I have an AR for my Gameboy Advanced. The codes very rarely work, and when they do, they severely bug up the game. Oh, and it always freezes and becomes unusable whenever I turn it on.
I also tried an AR for the DS once, one that belonged to one of my school chums. I tried to use it to get infinite Master Balls in one of the Gen4 games, I don't remember which. It fucked up my game to the point that I had to restart the game and make a new file.
So, yes, in my opinion at least, Action Replays are poorly designed cheap pieces of shit that I am convinced were placed on this Earth by a very cruel god.

Never had an AR for older systems, but the one for my DS still works, and basically works just fine for everything up to a certain point in time, where the games started using witchcraft* to give you more out of the one cartridge... and that requires a firmware upgrade or an entirely new AR.
Now, a bunch of cheats don't work for Drawn to Life, but that's because for the International release they seriously fixed it so that AR cheats won't work. So that game is coated in dust at this stage. There are a bunch of "newer" cheats for Pokemon DP that don't work, but they're seriously "add a zoom feature, rotate the camera or go third-person" so I'm not sure they're even real, or someone just having a laugh.
These days I assume ARs exist 99% to stick two fingers up to Gamefreaks and let people get their event-only legendaries.
*I'll admit to not knowing how they do it.

Shrapnel, I can only conclude that Action Replays hate you.

So now Axeface is level 93. Tomorrow she'll be level 98, and the day after that, 100 (Aceface Avenue). This is assuming no levels are gained from Victory Road, but given XP is being shared with others, and at high levels it takes bucketloads to level up...
So my travel gang is:
[*]Haxorus (Sword Dance/Shadow Claw/Outrage/False Swipe)
[*]Swoobat (Psychic/Acrobatics/Fly/Thunder Wave - to be replaced with Flash as necessary)
[*]Jellicent (Surf/Recover/Scald/Shadow Ball)
[*]Lucario (Sword Dance/Strength/Drain Punch/Ice Punch)
[*]Floatzel (Rain Dance/Crunch/Ice Fang/Waterfall)
[*]Liepard (Cut/Thief/Night Slash/Low Kick)
No really, almost everyone there is pulling some HM duty, with 99% of the face-breaking being "Haxorus, use OUTRAGE!"
Once I reach the E4, I'll tag half of them out, but yeah, it's seriously "A bunch of HM users who mostly happen to also be decent in their specialist areas, and one sweeper"

So, flattened the E4 + Iris. Haxorus did almost all of the work, but Hydreigon, Tyranitar, Floatzel, Emboar and Jellicent were all present and helped.
And now Haxorus is level 100.

The Elite Four are surprisingly easy in this game.

Ruby/Sapphire's elite four were nuts...
Edit: Dammit, you guys are gonna make me restart Heart Gold or something. Or take it back up

IMHO Ruby/Sapphire in general was the hardest of the Pokemon series (ATK/SP.ATK divide still determined by type, abilities favored computer opponents until post-game, when there were no computer opponents, levels in general were high and a lot of opponents were thrown at you nastily.)
Emerald made things much easier, by giving you a much stronger legendary to fight the Elite Four with (while there is much fun to be had in Kyogre being a better Electric Pokemon than any actual Electric-type up until Arceus was introduced, let alone any Water-Type; same goes for Groudon and Grass/Fire/Ground, Rayquaza's raw power is just fucking amazing) and a much weaker Elite Four (the fucking Water Gym Leader, who was already a pushover for such a hard game, becomes Champion, and the really hard Champion from R/S becomes a post-game boss instead.)
And as for restarting and/or replaying Heart Gold,
DO IT.

Wow, $1.5mil from Abyssal Ruins. Nice. And getting to beat the three stooges up in Iccirus City, all for a crumby item like a Protein or something. I mean, they're nice, but shit, even Rare Candies are only particularly useful because you still get moves and evolutions from them - meaning they're great for those cases where something evolves at level 20, you caught one at level 50 and can't be fucked levelling it up. For regular "gain levels", I can buy 5/day at Join Avenue and then Remember moves that were skipped. It has basically reached the stage where the following items are not junk:
[*]Master Ball
[*]Rare Candy
[*]Evolution Items (hold items like Razor Claw, or Stones - particularly the ones you can't just buy for 3 BP)
More movies, whee!
And I beat Cynthia. Using Axeface. Tyranitar briefly appeared to end the Confusion, but could not Earthquake Lucario before getting a OHKO from Close Combat (I expected as much). But hey, lowering your defences so the half damage Outrage takes you out in one hit? Sure.
I did actually have to gulp a bunch of Full Restores down for Togekiss - it had a slither of health left after one Outrage, so she Full Restored, and it kept on Thunder Waving. Add to that me thinking "Oh, it's Psi-Fly! Shadow Claw!" and yeah, it took a bit.

I was going to start playing a aggressive tear through Pokemon like you once, but then I took an unhealthy obsession with Megaman Zero and plotting my own demise in the knee and glythinicis*.
*The glythinicis is an organ, similar in function to the squiggilyspoodge.

Funny enough, it wasn't even the champion who gave me trouble. I had a very angry Blaziken with an Attack-increasing nature. I had water-types, fire-types, dark types...I was pretty set.
It was the Dragon Elite Four. That dude was a sonofabitch.

Blaziken needs to be named Burn Rooster, but that will not fit. This is doubleplusungood.
You thought your Blaziken was angry...

FireCrotch should fit.
Edit: No wait! WANG FIRE

Re: Hoenn Elite Four
I just spammed the Dragon guy with Ice Beams.
Dragons usually explode on contact with Ice, so things were good.
But the Champion took me a while to beat.
Re: Cynthia
In both Black and Black 2, I beat Cynthia with ~Lv. 55-65 Pokemon.
Togekiss was the biggest problem in Black 2, but I have a Flygon that knows Stone Edge and has the item that boosts Accuracy by 1%0(and told Thunder Wave to fuck off; its other moves did x1 damage.)
Lucario is a joke if you have something either faster than it or that can take a Close Combat that knows Earthquake.
Garchomp explodes on contact with Ice, Ermac Spiritomb has no weaknesses (other than things with Foresight/Odor Sleuth/Scrappy and Fighting moves) but it has no real strengths either (Dark and Ghost really cover the same types, and its stats aren't too nasty,) Glaceon is pure Ice and thus goes down fairly easily, and Milotic has good defenses, but if you force it on the offensive it eventually goes down.
I actually found her harder in Platinum (if it weren't for my Lapras and my Torterra she'd have killed me with Garchomp and Lucario, but Lapras is super awesome, while Torterra is just awesome, and so I beat her through attrition, Ice Beams, and Earthquakes.)
Going to continue fighting every Gym Leader and Champion ever in the World Tournament because that's super special awesome chocolately fudge coated super sexy cool.

Oh, Spiritomb is only scary if hacked to have Wonder Guard, and even then, can be beaten by a savvy foe (Fighting + "I can hit Ghosts", Toxic, Curse, Bad Dream + Nightmare, Bad Weather, Type Changing (Soak), Ability Changing (Worry Seed/Simple Beam/Mummy)). I did one Sword Dance then Shadow Claw. OHKO. Spiritomb just isn't very scary.
I then did a second Sword Dance for Milotic (eating a Blizzard in the process. Ouch.) and unleash Outrage to OHKO Milo, Glaceon and Garchomp. But she was hard to beat in White (I probably just had a team that wasn't great for it).
Started trading with Curtis. It's a pity you literally have to go on dates with the opposite sex in order to get those trades, but I'm pretty much used to video games only having the straight option.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed at the straight-only dominance in gaming. Though Bioware's RPGs are... vaguely progressive, I suppose.
Though that made me think of this:

I've always imagined that every character I've played in Pokemon since gender is an option is either a trap or a gender-confused female.
Which is why Professor [insert game region's professor here] is always asking my character's gender.
"Really? Bridget [which I actually named my character in Emerald] is a dude?"
Which also gives a good reason for the rivalry with Brendan/May/Ethan/Lyra/other opposite gender player character douchebags (if any;) they're unable to overcome their insecurity of their masculinity/femininity.

I typically play the female, unless she looks retarded (HG/SS, I'm looking at you), in which case I just say the "male" character isn't necessarily male. Not like it matters much.

But she had such an awesome hat!
Not as good as the female Trainer from Leaf Green's, but still...
Janine keeps on kicking my ass in the PWT.
And I really want to fight Giovanni (who has an even more awesome hat.)
Oh well, it's still probably the best part of this game.
