I still don't understand, but I guess I'm a bit stupid.

What I expect from a retro-clone is to have the same feeling as the old games, but without their problems. I expect such a game to exist in Nostalgia Land, where everything is perfect because you don't remember what was wrong: if the retro-clone reminds me about the problems of the old games instead of hiding them, it is a failure. At that point, I can as well re-open my old books and play AD&D or Warhammer FRPG or CoC or whatever.
What you think about as a Problem is obviously not an Problem for the author....

A lot of the people who are in the OSR scene are super into the poor game design decisions of the past. Not having Thac0, the five saves or descending AC will get segments of the OSR to lose interest in your game for changing too much. This is why there are tons of D&D retroclones, different people want different things modernized or kept the same (and the same could mean any edition from 1974-1999.)

Anything that's a problem with older editions of D&D will have vocal proponents among the OSR internet crowd.

Apropos of nothing, I find it intensely amusing that an OSR hack is essentially eating Exalted's lunch on the biggest board devoted to it not openly owned by Onyx Path.

They're getting killed by a retro-stupid iteration of the game line they tried to put in the ground.

Rpg.net of course. Godbound @ ~1800 posts and Exalted 3E @ ~3800 posts.

It's like Dave Meltzer swearing, Pinkie Pie's hair going straight, or a Russian man swearing off vodka.

Clearly, OSR games being meaningful in any way to anyone under 40 is cause for intense existential terror.

Where's the evidence anyone under 40 cares about OSR games? Things can have a big thread on rpg.net without anyone caring. Consider: that Exalted 3 thread has 3800 posts? Exalted 3 Kickstarter has 4300 backers. That thread has almost as many posts as there are people in the world who will read that book. And by the time the book actually comes out, it will have more.

The echo chamber at big purple is very echo. The signal to noise ratio is very low. You can no more judge a game's impact by its rpg.net post volume than you can judge Trump's electoral prospects by reading /pol/.

Godbound is a niche vanity press offering that appeals to a tiny group of grognards. The basic target demographic White Wolf was courting whilst trying to kill AD&D 2nd edition. And we know that demographic is bullshit small and didn't matter back during the first Clinton presidency, because 3rd edition D&D won and Exalted lost in the first place.

Frank you are overreacting to a lame joke. Godbound is a drop in an ocean of piss impact wise, but the funny thing to me was Godbound stealing noise from Exalted fanboys on a site that may as well be Onyx Path's official forums.

The pedant would also say that there are people who believe an OSR game is meaningful in the thread, who can be surmised to be under 40 via system records. This is unless Big Purple is an elaborate puppet play by some bored AI who popped its robo-cherry to White Wolf products.

Tangential /pol/ connection: /tg/ also mentions Godbound in passing at times, outside of the OSR general. Granted, that doesn't mean shit either, but hey.
