I've been playing a game on the 3DS called Shovel Knight, and it has been the best not megaman/Mario platformer I have ever played. The game play is tough in the sense that if you knew that thing was there you'd totally beat it but ha you didn't so start again and graphics wise it's colorful, cheery upbeat, and happy with cheap laughs.
I want everyone to play it/ give me a tome class for it
Shit that was better than you expected/remembered.

Shovel Knight is pretty cool. Here's another kickstarter platformer that turned out surprisingly fun: http://elliotquest.com/
It's heavily inspired by Zelda II, which might sound like a bad thing at first, but I think it's executed really well. Elliot Quest gets seriously fun later on, and there's some meaningful decisions you have to make that give the game a fair amount of replay value too.

Looks like there's gonna be some expansion content for Shovel Knight, possibly later this year.
