Overall, what do you guys think of E6? Good, bad, or in between?

I have yet to try it but looks interesting.
Oddly, most campaigns I've been in since my start in AD&D back in 1996 have crapped out around average party level 5-6, which means that either I'll probably never get a chance to try it, or it would have saved the lifespan of those campaigns..

Not to be dumb but how would spellcasters advance in spellcaster level?
By stacking on a custom feat that adds +1 SCL every time, yet not increasing the level of spells known (it would increase spells per day)?

The whole point is that you don't advance after level 6, and that includes Caster Level. You just stop, do not pass go, do not collect 4th level spells.

You can take a feat to get an extra spell slot per day if you want, but you could also spend that feat on free metamagic, so meh, casters for the win.

Oh OK. So casters win anyways... meh, so what's the point of freezing everyone at L6 then if the inevitable happens..

The idea is so that, if pushed off a cliff, you still die when you hit the bottom (instead of the awesome barbarian shock troopers who leap off flying creatures, rage mid-air, take the landing damage and keep going), and armies can still kill PCs. Seeing as I prefer the Dynasty Warriors approach, it's not my thing.

In Ravenloft, you want something that makes the monsters better than the PCs. In anything else, F&K should port over just fine.

I sort of like Ravenloft. Personally, even though it was really more of a one shot than a potential campaign scenario, I tended to prefer Mask of the Red Death for at least trying to put the gothic horror into the correct genre and time frame. The problem with Ravenloft is that horror tends to be counteracted by high magic. When you add low magic and that Victorian inability to cope with things that fall outside their own mindset, the horror becomes more real.

So, would porting over the Masque Magic System into Ravenloft work?

The whole You're not good and neither is your mom is the greatest thing ever produced by the internets. I keep it and use that in discussions with people all the time when the idea of "good" in any way shape or form comes up. Damn. Bravo.

Dear Midnight, you have actually made me sad. I took a day off of posting yesterday because of actual sadness you made me feel in my heart for you.

Yeah, thanks for bumping that. I wasn't really hanging around on here back then, and hadn't seen it. It is truly awesome. I also really like the quote in Frank's first post, also. That makes me want to play a fkn paladin.

Hey PhaedrusXY good to see you on the den!
This is actually where d&d should have gone in it's entirety.
I myself want to write novels set in frank's "tome series" world.
I just ... I'm not sure where to start.
Too many Ideas
I want to do a tale about the "Half-orc"
As well as the Iconic guy. Cause every shared world needs Its drizzt or wolverine.
But yeah. "An honest man has found you..." is the sharpest paladin intro yet.

Hm. Well, I'm an oldschool roleplayer, and haven't actually played for over a decade, but these sort of things always got to me. Like murderous paladins, 'evil' mindless undead, etc. So a few years back I wrote a novel that examines those things, pokes a little fun at how d&d works, etc. It's called "Antipaladin Blues", and should be coming out this year. The main character is an antipaladin- but is basically a good guy at heart, but takes his job very seriously, so beats ass way more and way more brutally than necessary. Also an ancient lich monster, who is amoral but on the evil side, though still looks fondly on the world and some of the cuter girls in it. What alignment would those two be?

I did just recently start reading Order of the Stick, and realize there are some superficial similarities, but I think anyone writing about this topic will end up with some of the same tropes.

Anyway, Midnight, you should go for it. I'd love to see more people writing stuff like this, that addresses real concerns but respects the Rule of Cool. And I'd be glad to let you pick my brain for ideas.
Anyway,

I've considered it, myself.

There's something neat about a craftsman who stares at you like you're from the Elemental Plane of Idiot when you try to drop a bag of gold in front of him, and says he'll make the gear for fifty pounds of adamantine, fifty of silver--coins will do, if you happen to have that many--and a few logs of red oak.

I've got some NPCs and a premise I'll likely use for a campaign that might be revived soon.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.
