Free to play, could be very dangerous ground if you can buy power.

If they rip off World of Tanks, which is very similar in concept, the divide between those with money and those without will be pretty small, or non-existent after a point. One problem in World of Tanks they need to address is the main drive of the game is to get into the next more powerful tank, when you have the most powerful level of tanks there isn't really a reason to keep playing.

In WOT they are planning to make it so you only drive against other tanks in your tier, not this 2 above and 2 below bullshit anymore . .

But yes, this seems, right now, like an about 80-90% WOT clone to me . .

Also, Premium Ammo in WOT blasts through Armor like paper . .

If they make it so light and medium mechs have a role it could be very good.

Cite for your first claim? They are going to be narrowing the spread in the matches, not eliminating it. Right now it is possible that pre-WWII tanks get matched up against things like King Tigers and Ferdinand tank destroyers, they plan on limiting it so the gap is going to be smaller.

Premium ammo is situationally useful, it usually won't defeat the strongest part of a similar opponent's armour. It's a real pain on the big tank destroyers in clan wars though.

i read the plans for the update to 0.6.8 or 0.7.0 or so, and somewhere in there, they planned to introduce tier matches, where you only drive against same tier machines.

They are bringing in company battles that have a tier limit to what tank you can bring. Which they had already, except the Tier limit was 10. There will be no lower limit, so in a Tier 8 company match you may end up fighting tier 5 tanks.

Then i must have misread that.

So, will it be PvP or PvE primarily? That's a very important question.

Most likely PvP. You'll click on a big red button that says fight, you'll be assigned to a team of probably 12 mechs, and your job will be do flatten the 12 or so enemy mechs.

Thinking about it, you'll probably won't be able to customize your mech either, beca'll use that could be abused. So you'll be stuck with stock machines, that's a real reason to be disappointed.

From reading those PCGamer articles, this is not the impression I get. To me, it sounds a lot more like ChromeHounds, with people banding together in lances (parties) and companies (guilds). I imagine there'll be some kind of quick deathmatch-type game, but I don't care about that.

The talk about controlling the flow of information on the battlefield, the goal of making every mech type be useful, and the fact that the 'history' of Mechwarrior will be affected by the player's actions and combat results sounds to me a lot like an updated ChromeHounds, which is fantastic news, since I loved that game.

I just came to a horrifying realization.

I'm turning into a sniperfag (I suppose that's the term).

I was screwing around on Mass Effect 1, picking off turrets at extreme ranges and a bit of cover to get more XP.

Then I remembered that last time I played Redemption multiplayer, I was in a four-man posse and volunteered to hang back and cover the other three with a sniper rifle. And doing it quite well--I reduced one guy to raging because I led him enough that he ran into the bullet. "HOW COULD YOU DO THAT FUCKING AIMBOT I WAS RUNNING NO WAY YOU COULD MAKE THAT SHOT YOU FUCKING CHEAT". Nevermind that an aimbot would have headshotted him and I got him in the chest...

But, yeah. I'm getting to enjoy sniper rifles a little too much in various games. I'm consoled by the fact that I still like shotguns and explosives, no matter the game I'm playing.

How to make people rage:

Play an FPS with them.
Beat them.

Warning, massive sperging about Monster Hunter Tri below.
I've been playing Monster Hunter Tri these days, and I've decided to, for once, try online play. How it went:

The first two hunts were nice enough, one of the other players did his job admirably, shooting the hell out of that Qurupeco and Great Jaggi. The other, though, kept throwing me away with his hammer by accident. Not particularly angry about that, just annoyed.

Second player leaves me with noob, and I trigger another quest. Capture a Royal Ludroth. Should be easier than the bird, I tell myself. Yeah right.

So as the fight goes on I realise something: I'm actually fighting alone. Noob just keeps running around like a headless chicken while I fucking swing that switch-axe like crazy. Then genius strikes him: "I'll set a trap!" He sets the fucking trap given at the start of the fucking quest when 1: The monster is running away 2: ITS NOT EVEN LIMPING YOU CRETIN! I try help make it work, spamming tranquiliser, to no avail.

So yeah, it fails. Miserably, at that. Noob is confused. "Wo hav no trap!, Wo hav no trap!" he bargles repeatedly. I ignore the little fuck, counting on the fact that I brought extra stuff with me, just in case. After a while, the beast lost its tail, mane, horns and the sub-objective is completed, no thanks to the little shit. So, as I see the poor thing (The monster, no the idiot) flail around like its eyeballs were shoved up its ass, I decide to stop the fight right there. I set a Pitfall Trap and let it do its magic, until I realise the worst had fucking happened. As retarded as I thought my companion was, I was no better. I did mention I used tranquiliser before, right? I just didn't realise I used ALL of it. Noob was not pleased. I took the time to type "screw you" in the chat box, and left.

So, I got Achron today and played a few missions.

I am going to need to requisition some additional tenses. Also, figuring out units and counters would probably be a good idea.

Finally got around to picking up Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. Having fun, but the cases seem to fly by really fast. Haven't needed to consult a walkthrough yet, which is definitely a change.

So anyway my computer had some... issues.

So I was reinstalling my operating system.

So since Sword Of the Stars II just came out and it was Windows 7 only, and since my poor machine was somewhat beyond the limits of what XP technology could handle, I decided fuck it. I'll run Windows 7 and try out SOTS II.

The result...

Those Fucking Fuckers Fucked it to Fucking Fuck.

It's like... it isn't even... there wasn't a... it doesn't... there are NO WORDS... "incomplete" doesn't even begi

I recall reading that SotS 2 was due for release next august. Apparently that hasn't actually changed but they released it anyways.

It's kind of odd that the CEO is apologizing so publicly and so quickly. I've read his forum posts before, and that's not like him. It's so out of character I somewhat suspect something shifty is up.

If you open a ticket with Paradox, they will tell you you can have your money back. They appear to be taking their sweet ol' time doing that, but they have said they will do it. I highly recommend it; odds are, SotS2 is never going to be a finished product and even if they do pull a decent game out of their ass you'll be able to pick it up then for half the price.

The game is in a deceptively bad state, and it already looks bad, so that says something. A lot of the features you might think are there, implemented and just really buggy/shitty/unoptimized are actually non-functional placeholders that don't do what they're supposed to do because they didn't have the time to make them do anything.

I just wish they'd fucking refund my money in time for Skyrim. If they're gonna give me Steam store credit, I'd like to use it on the giant purchase I am contemplating in two days.

Okay, I looked at the forum post. Apparently, what happened is that they swapped their "release code" and their "shitty early alpha code", then put the code they thought was release code on steam and threw out the code that they thought was shitty alpha code. So the reason it feels like a pre-release version is that it literally is.

I'm reasonably confident that they'll eventually get all the bugs worked out and it will be a finished game. Meanwhile, I'm going to save my money.

Yes and no. Yes, they said (or people assumed) they put up the wrong version on steam and had to fix it, and there actually was an entirely new release within a day after that. That was October 28th and 29th. So no, the stuff you're reading about how the game sucks and is a giant incomplete mess? That's because the build that replaced the faulty steam release was almost identical to the faulty steam release.

Whatever other fucks up they made about the Steam release, it turns out they didn't have a game to give us in the first place.
