TNE: Cool Stuff

Post by angelfromanotherpin »

So, I was reading one of the White Wolf d20 books, and there was this spell. It targets a person under the effects of a Mirror Image spell, turns the images solid, and has them lay into him. It also effectively negates the Mirror Image effect, since it's now clear which one the original is.

Now, it's not a good spell (it's underpowered for a veritable horde of reasons), but it's a really cool idea. TNE would be better if stuff like that was available and worthwhile.

There was some discussion about handling summoning by having the summons use the caster's actions. You could do something similar with mounts. There was also some discussion for having enemies attack each other (always cool), which could use a similar mechanic (i.e. the PCs uses an action for an attack with some version of the enemy's effects).

What other stuff is cool but never seen in our games?

For what it's worth, mounts in 4e work as you describe. The mount+character get a single set of actions. If you want the mount to attack, the character can't attack (without spending an action point).
Also, Crown of Madness, 4e Warlock Power, level 5: "Sustain Minor: The target makes a melee basic attack against one of its adjacent allies of your choice (save ends)".

Other ideas along those lines:

Charge-up powers: sacrifice an action to make a subsequent attack more powerful.
Combined powers: powers that require two characters to co-operate to set off.
PC splitting. Like Naruto. Each split PC behaves like a 4e minion (fixed damage, dies on any hit/effect). When all are dead, original PC reforms.
Blood Golem. Like Diablo 2. Create golem. Golem uses the PCs hitpoints/wounds/etc. Killing either kills both.

I'd like to see some area effects for weapon types that don't have to feel magical. They would allow them to cut through swaths of minions easily and quickly. A moving whirlwind, or an arrow barrage and stuff of that type
The internet gave a voice to the world thus gave definitive proof that the world is mostly full of idiots.

Modular powers.

You learn a little fire or acid here, learn a little Stun or Toss Into Air there, and combine it on a whim into the combat magic you need.

Also, just saw Jumpers this weekend. We need everything that happened in it; tiny little teleports, quick teleports, far teleports, violent teleports, mass teleports, fuckhuge object (bus, building) teleports, and of course the counters against teleporting.

Nobody gives a flying fuck about Tordek and Regdar.
