Vacation Time

Tomorrow, the extended family (waaaay too many of us) are getting together at a spot in Mississippi to swim and have a cookout and spend some time.

And, oh, there'll be homemade ice cream (of which I'll probably be the one doing most of the cranking), and certainly a lot of barbecue cooked on Grillzilla, the grill my uncle made out of a two-wheeled trailer.

Despite the certainty that I'm going to get sunburned, I'm quite looking forward to it. The little cousins can jump off my back and into the water, I can get some badass burgers, have the annual splash fight in which everyone younger than I am gangs up on me to try to pull me under...

So how about the Denizens?

Does anyone have anything they're particularly looking forward to?

Well, there's this pool party later today that sounds like fun. I've got a family reunion in a couple of weeks. Then I'll be moving shortly thereafter.

Then school starts again.

5 more weeks here at NASA. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, though. I've come to like the place.

Sometime at the end of July/beginning of August (in theory), I'm going to be spending a day or two in the hospital to give birth to my first baby. I'm not really sure I'm looking forward to labor, but I am looking forward to the fruits of my labor.

I'm looking forward to summer being fucking over and classes to start again. It burns me that I'm wasting time not furthering my goals. (Tried to take summer classes, but they canceled them all without telling me why. At least they gave me my money back.)

It's Winter over here. So I'm basically continuing to pester pharmacies into giving me a job (because I was lucky with every previous job, I had no idea how hard it was to get employed once you're actually looking after yourself).

The government is pretending to assist me in this, due to my suffering from a disability (depression, which I am keeping a lid on) and actually wanting to get a job (as opposed to being a dole bludger), but ultimately it involves them suggesting alternate career paths after I've already paid the $800 and done the ten week course, something I actually stuck with to the end despite difficulties (I'm ashamed to say it's a first) and did really well at.

They even suggested I go into regular retail, where, instead of helping sick people to have a better day, and working towards my goal of one day being an actual pharmacist, then maybe even becoming a doctor, I would be helping people (who are richer than me and probably less intelligent than me) buy things they don't need.

I managed to convince them this was a bad idea, because:
1) I don't like people I don't know if I'm not honestly *helping* them
2) I don't like the idea of less intelligent people having more money than me
3) I don't cope with stress or having to deal with people
4) My way of not getting overwhelmed by stress is to consume codeine
5) The government would prefer that people die slowly and painfully from liver poisoning than simply get high, so codeine is always packaged with way too much paracetamol
6) The government probably wouldn't foot the bill for all of my codeine prescriptions

Also, I hate the cold.

So yeah, it's going to be a bucket of laughs while you bastards get some warmth. That being said, enjoy it - really, have a good time.

Oh, incidentally, Frank, what branch of medicine are you aiming at? What is your goal for employment? Is it the kind of thing that would clash with being a Utilitarian, what with results defining morality and people sometimes dying despite the best efforts of the doctors? And how much would it cost to send over a little gift along the lines of a bisexual girl with a sultry East-European accent? Either through turnip economy in Moldova or "Cheque for Czech" trade, I don't mind.

Personally I can look forward to continued unemployment, driving around various cities and whoring out my resume and credentials for 9 hours at a time in terrible heat, an emotionally abusive mother, watching the continuing moral degeneration of my two preteen sisters while specifically being unable to intervene in any meaningful way, an emotionally abusive and foul mouthed grandmother, taking care of the needs of my 4 month old sister, the constant non-availability of my friends, and the crushing despair of having accomplished absolutely nothing as my father's life insurance money slowly but inexorably runs out.

Okay, pregnancy puns. I suppose it was only a matter of time...

Anyhow, we drove overnight to Portland, and today we went to the zoo; their northwest exhibit is really nice, short on animals, but lots of plants. We'll drive home on Sunday.

I'm actually on a two week vacation right now. A thousand miles from home and the weather is a lot nicer. I'm stuck with my family, missed out on a chance at employment, and probably missed out on two weeks of getting laid, but whatever. That's life. The location is great, but I had some sweet shit that I missed out at home. Clearly I'm not sure I should have come.

Bi women are overrated. I've dated a couple bi women. It ended poorly.

Although the eastern european accent could work out alright.

Thank you (and everyone else)! I found out I was pregnant on Christmas Eve, and the baby's due really close to my birthday, so I received two holidays worth of gifts from my pregnancy.

Sorry about the unemployment, you guys. Good luck finding something.

That's not exactly true, Sigma. I mean, it depends on the nature of the partner, not "how many other attractive people they find". Otherwise, seeing as there are quite a lot of people in the world, chances aren't looking good from the start - billions of possibilities for cheating!

And I was just going on the advice of a friend (though she may have been biased), who said there are benefits.

Anyway, on more important matters, that's great timing Maj. And Ramnza & fbmf, enjoy the honeymoon. Feel free to not share details with us.

Ooh, and Crissa, well done. 10 years is pretty impressive these days. Being allowed to get married sounds like a nice bonus (and a victory).
