Do my work for me :3
So I ended up saying I'll DM for a group on IRC. I did it before, with reasonable results (that fun, dopey campaign that died out), and this time it sort of happened. Here is the basic info:
1. Using the Dreamscarred Press "Complete Choice" stuff, so you can custom-build your characters. I know how bad an idea this can be, but players were interested in it due to being bored of regular classes and wanting to be able to pick options as they go - not the kind to abuse it by saying "1 HD, no skills, saves or BAB, START WITH ACID FOG AT WILL".
2. Also using the stuff that basically says "Your magic items are innate to you. You have (wealth by level) 'soul points' and allocate them as you go, then the bonuses just stay there. So even naked you have your +4 Int, and a piece of cloth, worn by you, is treated as +1 Adamantine Full Plate." As such, material wealth is "whatever the fuck you want".
3. Level five (or the XP equivalent of level 5)
4. The characters include something I can't remember, a Warblade (he decided to just make a character the regular way rather than read through a new book) and basically a shadowy rogue - same player as the rogue in the other game, and sort of the same character, just with more choice in abilities.
5. I stupidly said I'd try to make it less dungeoncrawly than the last one, with social challenges having more importance and using something more interesting than the basic social skills so as to have interesting choices (though the player who really wanted that seems to have vanished, so I may be able to drop that).
---
That's it. The game has been stagnating at that stage for about a month, and they're still pestering me about when I'm going to run it, and I am not particularly inspired. If I were to do it, I'd probably just go "I've been playing a lot of N1 tacticals and watching the Three Kingdoms movies, so it's a horrible blend thereof. A weird dungeoncrawl where half the encounters are actually talky-talky encounters as your goal is to figure out the ecology of the dungeon and how the fuck it works." So this is where you come in!
Someone come up with the basic idea for me. GO! MUSH, MUSH!

Mapping a cave system that gets out of hand.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

N1 games? Moar socialization?
=======================
You are a merry troupe of planehopping adventurers trying to get piles of asymmetric power and have fun doing so. Lately, you've been visiting some of the nicer demon-cities in the abyss. While you were visiting the famous statue garden of Krotavrick (all people petrified for various reasons, then altered or reposed with magic and tools), you saw the Overlord of the city, Pretty Demon Queen Vurasel. She seemed fairly distressed over something, and had decided that it was all a random underling's fault. Perhaps scenting an opportunity for work, perhaps feeling some sympathy for the poor Cambion, you approached to ask what up.
Vurasel is concerned. She was planning this awesome magical tea party in a couple months, but a number of people didn't respond to her letters, and she wouldn't be so gauche as to teleport up and ask them herself. Besides, that might be seen as an attack. The demonic emissaries she sent haven't come back either, maybe getting killed or distracted. Wait, you people are adventurers? Then you could go and make sure all the cool people come to her party. She'll give you directions, and if you meet with any success, she'll let you attend too. Get a substantial number of guests, and she might give you a nice house to use as a base of operations, a pile of souls, or a kiss on the cheek that gives you Basic access to a sphere.
Possible prospects
- A knight who must protect a magical spring. He needs to be convinced that this isn't some elaborate scheme to take it over and a temporary guardian of some reliability must be found.
- This black dragon that lives in a fairly dangerous abysmal swamp. None of the messages had gotten through before now.
- A Chain Devil musician who thinks that the Blood War is for the birds, and that some demons are pretty chill, yo. He works at a prison/torture station in Dis, the Iron City, and the main obstacle is getting out without outing him to them as a traitor.
- Some medusas who left Vurasel's employ over artistic differences about how to do the statue garden. Perhaps the medusas need to be convinced that Vurasel and they can still be friends, or that a compromise can be reached.

I agree.Archmage wrote:That is awesome. Awesome enough that I might have to steal some or all of it myself for a future game.
I feel small in the pants, now.
Or maybe I should post after actually sleeping for seven or eight hours a day and not when I've just woken up.

Well I could do with another, but you'd need to get proficient enough with IRC to be able to connect and chat.
I'm thinking of running it 7PM-ish (Adelaide time, which is GMT + 9:30) or possibly 10AM-ish. On "one of those days in the week".
It's on the sup/tg/ server, which can be accessed from:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/chat.html
I go by the name Sister_Acacia there, usually.

unfortunately it appears I have a different IRC game during that time period on Wed.
Since you have Prak, you don't need me though.

Av, could you download your ability to think up awesome plots, and then upload it into my mind? That would be awesome.
Koumei - if you're up for another player, i'm generally available thursday mornings (GMT+10), although I don't have the Dreamscarred class creator, i'm sure I can get my hands on it. I've also been looking for another game since one of my rl games is on hiatus and i'm suffering withdrawal symptoms.

fucking board is being a bitch and not sending pms...
so here's my character, I've checked the math several times, let me know if it's insanely broken or you have no clue what some stuff does, or if you find some kind of math error or something.

Huh, so you're Sister Acacia. Cool.
I think I can swing those times on wed-thurs, so if you need a player, I'd be down. AnonX on sup/tg/.

If you want, I could post a step-by-step guide in IMHO (for a Skies of Arcadia inspired game using a modified form of the AWoD rules) where I try to explain my thought processes.Rejakor wrote:Av, could you download your ability to think up awesome plots, and then upload it into my mind? Mask: sorry, but at the moment it looks like I have a party of five.
Reminder to players: first session is 10 AM on Thursday the 8th, South Ausfailian time (GMT +9:30)
As in, less than 24 hours away. Begin your fasting in preparation.

Well the game turned out to be a huge success: two people showed up, so we didn't do anything and I gave them 1K XP each as a "fuck you" to everyone else. Easiest session ever.
And this is why I prefer forum games.

Both have their problems. If you can get everyone together for a chat game it can actually be pretty good.
EDIT: If it helps any, I just had 1.5 players show up for my IRC game today. Reap what you sow, I guess.
