A class you'd like to see

Post by Dr_Noface »

What class (base or Prc) would you like to see written up? I'd love to see a magic-user that sends up the D&D version of chaos, slaads and all.

A functioning gun mage. Some variation in the guns (damage/range/number of shots before a reload), and bullets treated as spell-storing, with a few other options (ghost touch, bypass DR/hardness, the basics)/
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Would that be a variant of the arcane-archer style classes?

Highly likely not. I'm looking at a base class.

I'm looking for a Sacred Fist that doesn't suck. As a base class. And is good for every level. And has full cleric spellcasting.

Ironically, you can give a Sacred Fist lots of features that the original cleric didn't have, as long as you force them to fight 'gimped'--unarmed and unarmored combat is a huge disadvantage in 3E.

Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

I could probably do something along those lines. Are you after them firing actual bullets made of actual lead, with magic imbued, or shooting spells at people, or firing bolts of (energy) damage?

An enlightened fist could be cool too, although I don't have preferences on base class or PrC.

I found my notes: Bullets of lead with the magic imbued. Replicating some spell-like effects (one idea was using a bullet's path to draw a wall of a fire, wall of force, what-have-you). Along with a few Monk-esque options for damage and effects, I figure that sounds workable.

It should have a Telekinesis bull-rush effect. So you can shoot people through walls and out of windows.

I always thought that Wizards not being able to cast healing spells is dumb, I also don't like Vancian casting so I'd like a class that could cast Wizard and Cleric spells, preferable spontaneously, preferably int-based.

That's cleric spells out of a spellbook.

But can't wizards cast all spells from anywhere? So wizards should be able to do all of that cleric stuff.

A Red Mage, basically? Picking apart what makes magic work and using that to ignore spell list restrictions?

Red Mage exactly. I'd like it to be spontaneous but with a large list, but for all of that I think I'd have to use a slower progression and give up access to 9th level spells, but I'm OK with that.

Archivists are good, but their power is totally DM dependent. Wizards are limited to Wizard spells, in the DMG it even gives guidelines that Wizard spells shouldn't heal damage. Sorcerers however have a caveat that their spells are drawn primarily from the Wiz/Sorc list, what that means is never explained but conceivably you could use that to learn Cleric or Druid spells.

So, Bard casting (int-based), and they can crack spells from scrolls and spellbooks--or even seeing them used by someone else--to learn them. Hell, their spell list can consist of "Spells from other lists that they've solved." Class skill: Spellcraft to crack the spells.

Probably wouldn't hurt to throw in abilities to grab higher-level spells if you can crack them (but not above what you'd be doing if you were that class anyway). Some metamagic wouldn't hurt.

Medium BAB, give them rapiers and snazzy red hats if you wanted to go all Final Fantasy Red Mage.

Pretty much but I'd be aiming for a Wizard balance point. Everything else is spot on.

You can make a progression that goes up 8th level spells in 20 levels, even taking on 3/4 BAB you're probably not going to be overshadowing a proper Cleric/Druid/Wizard so it's strong but not broken. I'm thinking roughly 3 new spells a level, that gives it about half again as many spells as a Sorcerer, but those where short-changed to begin with.

Then snag a couple of things from Final Fantasy. Double Spell--2 spells in a full round every so often. The combos possible there would make it worth it. Also, maybe some kind of spell-storing function so you can give other people a spell to whip out when they need it.

And might as well not put a restriction on grabbing spells, apart from "can't grab 9th-level spells as soon as you can make the DC by hook or by crook".

I was looking at a similar thread on the Paizo boards, and the two that struck me were (a) a non-spellcasting shapeshifter class and (b) a non-magical gadgeteer class.

If you want healing on a wizard without any cheese, just grab the feat that lets you cast spells from the healing domain.

I think a full 20 level non-spellcasting shapeshifter class is very doable... plenty of neat extraordinary and supernatural abilities to mine from.

Something like that, although maybe more "Beast Boy" than "Plastic Man" was what I had in mind.

You could also journey to find a naga or dragon who has "Cast spells from the Cleric list as arcane spells" and "scribe scroll".

Your DM might go for that easier because it gives him a plot hook.

A martial artist base class which is not a Monk. Not all legendary martial artists lived in monasteries, were lawful and got supernatural abilities out the wazoo.
