Hehe, what you have to understand, Count, is that 7 year olds are immensely stupid, compared to adults. That was about as good as it gets for the efforts of someone that young. A few more years and he'll be up to putting snot places you only find when it gets on you.

There was another fucking bat in my house again! AGAIN!

What the fuck is wrong with this world that I keep getting harassed by fucking bats!? In the sanctity of my own home, no less. This is the second time in a row!

So, I just moved into LGBT-themed communal housing situation. I'm asexual, but I don't generally associate myself with the LGBT community. The house doesn't require residents to be LGBT, but most are, and everyone must be accepting and supportive. I thought living there could be an interesting way to see about making that more a part of my identity.

However, I am now looking for other housing. When the manager gave me a tour, she criticized the male members of the house three or four times over the 15-minute tour. Now, some of the problems she brought up sounded legitimate, but it does not inspire confidence when my introduction to the house involved taking a problem with certain members of a group, generalizing it to the group as a whole, and then talking about it to a member of that group.

That was annoying, but whatever, she had just woken up. Then I saw this post on the online group for the house (I removed the 6 smiling or cutesy emoji) "Reminder that if you're straight and cis you really should NOT even be living here because this is a QUEER residence. So, don't take up space and keep your heteronormativity, cis/straight/male privilege, hypermasculinity, racism, and anything else, in check. Fucking ask for and use people's correct pronouns. Be hyperaware of your language and actions. Think and acknowledge that this is NOT YOUR SPACE. Thanks" This struck me as about the most confrontational and thoughtless way to tell others to be thoughtful and accepting.

God, this pisses me off. These are the people who make young leftists look bad.

So, you willingly moved into a den of SJW, is what you are telling us?

No, because I find the term SJW to be a way to shut down discussion. I also do find most of the people to be nice and I had no real reason to expect this. I live in the SF Bay Area, there are a lot of places that are LGBT-friendly without being assholes about it.

Ah, OK.
I thought you had read that post before moving in.

I can do emergency medicine on giant spiders. I found that out because my B. smithi got her toe claws caught on the lid to her enclosure and one had ripped out entirely by the time I found her. A bit of superglue to stop the bleeding and a couple days rest in a ICU unit and she's cranky as ever.

Regarding the housing situation, I agree that people use the term SJW to shut down conversation. We should call the people in Tia's living situation a more accurate term. I suggest something along the lines of dumbasses, hypocrites, or lunatics.

What about "overbearing, unnecessarily hostile fuckwads?"

I wish I was literate in German, that looks interesting.

Speaking of perversion:
I was able to have normal sex for the first time since my health decided to give me the finger. It was not impressive, but it's a sign I might be improving; before I couldn't manage more than a few seconds of vigorous activity of any kind

That term only gets used when the discussion has already been shut down by the people the term is applied to, the ones who not only don't want to hear anything they don't like, want to ensure that no one can even say any such thing.

Those people - the ones living in the housing you decided to leave - decided that they would establish the social standards and demand that everyone obey their whims. It's the pure exercise of power, performed in the name of thoughtfulness and politeness.

They were Social Justice Warriors. Acknowledge it and move on.

Did you seriously just say that no conservative person has ever used the term preemptively because they don't agree with a position?

The only time I've heard it applied is when someone suggests that people are mistreating an individual or a group. "What are you, a WHITE KNIGHT SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR, standing up for other people?"

If you don't stand up to evil, evil people will feel emboldened to take action.

Fortunately, we do have Social Justice Warriors. Unfortunately, they are mortal.

... shifted from Quotes, since I didn't have anything quotable to go with my reply.
Shrapnel wrote:How is your life not a comedy on HBO already?
We're a little too hard core for HBO.

In silly personal anecdotes, there was a back to school night this Thursday for my kids, and I got off work just in time to make it... and stop by a farmer's market where they also sell snow-cones in a plastic cup, which I have been craving for all summer long but usually don't get off work early enough to get there.

So, I buy one. Not even thinking of that I am going to a school function where my kid's teachers will be presenting to a room full of mature adults as I scoop delicious sugar ice into my face.

What stuck with me during the presentation was when she mentioned that kids were allowed water bottles but not if they were filled with red gatorade, noting the carpet stain. After that, all I could focus on was not spilling my damned cherry-blueberry ice all over the place. I am a klutz with drinks in normal circumstances, let alone bustling school rooms and hallways. I could feel fate's sweaty palms closing around me and my high fructose corn syrup.

When I set my cup down to sign in the condensation made the cup stick to my hand, clinging after I let go and pulled away, dragging it to the edge of the desk like a jedi force move. Only because I was on high alert did I make the save. The universe had it in for me, but I was victorious in my reflexes.

Anywho, when I was done, I didn't want to carry around my empty cup to the next meeting, so I put it in my kid's locker. I first put it in his desk, but I reconsidered and decided the locker was best. I'm having second thoughts now, and the desk would have been better.

Adulting is hard I tells ya.

"Straight and cisgendered people" don't think gay people shouldn't exist. Bigots and assholes who are often gay themselves do. You want to tell me I'm an asshole because I shout "hah gay" every time the guys across the hall kiss, fine. You want to tell me I'm an asshole because I'm not into dudes, go fuck yourself.

I can see where they might be coming from - even if you're a fucking angel, every cishet person in the building is one less "person not in that category" that they can cater to. The implicit assumption being that cishet folks have more options.

Which isn't to say they aren't being far too confrontational about it.

Well is it private property as well as clear on the fact that it is meant to be a living space for trans folks? Because if the answer is yes to both, they made it clear what the terms were. If the answer to either is no, then it's exclusionary.

If the purpose was touted as inclusionary, but someone gets turned away for being cishet, then there's a problem.

Hey dumbass bigoted liar. No one said you shouldn't exist, and you shouting "hah gay" every time other people kiss is pretty fucking stupid, and probably harassment.

The fact that you think a co-op for LGBTQ people saying that their co-op for LGBTQ people is not the space for cis heterosexuals doesn't mean they think you shouldn't exist. It means this place is not your place.

Sorry, I wasn't actually referring to the co-op. I was specifically responding to OS's bullshit about SJW only being used when a conversation has "already been shut down" because we queers are fucking tired of people saying we shouldn't exist and then trying to put a fence around that saying "well, it's just an opinion" or "I'm not a bigot, I'm a christian!" or whatever.

Whoever put that sign up at the co-op is an overbearing fuckwad, who may have some kind of trauma, or have just had a really fucking bad day, that explains why they put up that note. But even then, that doesn't justify its tone, at least. I would imagine the person who wrote is pretty young, but I'd be lying if I said every queer my age was totally mature.

Ah, the self-serving bias. Poor behavior by the other is attributed to innate characteristics; poor behavior by the self, or members of an in-group, is attributed to situational factors. In other words, we make excuses for people we want to think well of and go out of our way to condemn people we don't wish to think well of.

Most people are power- and status-hungry jerks. To my knowledge, their sexual orientation has no bearing on that.

I noticed you left out the rest of Prak's quote that points out that the person who wrote the note was wrong in using the tone, and clarified that the person may have had some situational factor.

You're just flitting in and out, sniping at small parts of people's posts, all while avoiding responding the to meat of any post directed at you.
