In shadowrun, Stun damage is basically a resource you spend to cast spells or absorb damage with heavy armor, and Essense is some abstract concept to keep people from getting TOO cyberpunk.
What if you made them into the same thing? You regenerate "essence" at a rate of 1 per hour, casting a spell costs X essence, and getting artificial eyes permanently reduces your max essence by .2. Has anything like this been done before?
Cyberware, Essence, Mana and Stun.

Shadowrun Returns basically had lowered Essence increase CD on your spells, which is fundamentally the same as your implementation (more ware means less spells).
Of course, SRR was kind of flawed in that all levels of spells had different CD timers, so Haste I, Haste II, HAste III and Haste IV could be learned by a mid-Charisma chrome troll and cast consecutively to make him a killing machine.
