Minor point of contention: Sakurai did not choose the DLC fighters, Nintendo themselves did. He had final say, but not choice.

Either way they did a really good job of keeping it under ropes until the last moment, nobody was expecting that one, and now the online community's on an uproar on who the other 4 will be.

I don't put my faith in leaks. I know full well that it's not real.

But I get to pretend, just for a little while, that it COULD be real, because that's what the spirit of Giftmas is all about: magic, dreams, muumuus, turnip twaddlers...

And who knows? If I pray hard enough and suck enough of Nintendo's dick, it might just come true, a real Kwanzaa miracle.

I am slightly disappointed that we didn't get female Erdrick and the DQIV Heroine as alts, but I ain't gonna complain. Dragon Quest is FINALLY getting the goddamn recognition it deserves.

Quite frankly, I don't care who else they put in the game now. I've got all I need.

Here's some theorizing/musing.

Initially, I thought the Hero would release on July 12th, since that was also the day Dragon Quest Builders II dropped, and I theorized (and still do) that Nintendo would tie his release date to something related to Dragon Quest, but the 12th came and went without incident.

So now I'm thinking it might be one of two dates: July 29th, which is when Dragon Quest XI originally released, or September 23rd, the last day of summer and four days before XI is released on the Switch.

Given that Nintendo may or may not have leaked the Hero's release date as being in July, I'm leaning more towards the date being the 29th of July.

Really, I don't have any concrete proof - this is all mostly based on the shaky premise that Nintendo would want to tie the Hero's release to a date that has a DQ connection, but it's what I think and it is my theory which is mine by me and what it is too.

And Nintendo/Sakurai going "ah yes we'll keep adding even more characters to Smash Ultimate beyond the initial five planned."

Finally we'll have an axe Fire Emblem character with the new Fire Emblem Three Houses empress.
