There's always the SSB for the next Nintendo console. Each iteration has more characters than the previous.Shrapnel wrote:Um... they're not making any more DLC characters for Smash. Bayonetta was the last one.maglag wrote:Great job Nintendo! Now Alis, Nei and Red Ring Rico next please!
God bless Iwata in the heavens for having supported this idea from the start.

I seriously don't get the hate towards FE characters. It's a great series that deserves it's reps. I, personally, am excited about Corrin's inclusion. (Not as much as I am for Bayonetta, but still...)

Marth, Roy, Robin, Lucina, and now Corrin. Six characters, almost as many as from Pokemon or Mario.Shrapnel wrote:I seriously don't get the hate towards FE characters. And they could have put in Geno. Or Lloyd Irving. Shovel Knight. SOMEONE else.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

There are only so many variations on "guy with a sword who hits things with the sword" that you can actually manage, and Nintendo has proven over and over that they really don't have that many different meaningful characters they can make, and so some people would prefer to see a character with a different moveset instead of minor variations on a moveset they've seen 6 times already.Shrapnel wrote:I seriously don't get the hate towards FE characters. Agreed. It's most barefaced with Lucina; she is a literal clone of Marth.Kaelik wrote:Nintendo has proven over and over that they really don't have that many different meaningful characters they can make, and so some people would prefer to see a character with a different moveset instead of minor variations on a moveset they've seen 6 times already.
SSB4 has Ike as well.Kaelik wrote:Are you talking about just this game? Because Brawl has Ike.
Exactly as many as Pokemon (6 characters each; Pokemon has Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Charizard, Lucario, Greninja, and Mewtwo). Second only to Mario. If you count Pokemon from previous games (Pichu, Pokemon Trainer) Pokemon wins though. You'd be hard pressed to convince me that it deserves as much representation as Pokemon, and you can't convince me it deserves more than Zelda.Maxus wrote:Marth, Roy, Robin, Lucina, and now Corrin. Honestly, that doesn't surprise me, since in the very first game that had Fire Emblem characters, it has Roy and Marth, who were literally exactly the same, except that Marth was bigger and faster, and the damage was tip focused and roy was smaller and slower and mid focused, and therefore literally just the same character but worse in every way.Darth Rabbitt wrote:Agreed. Hadn't realized they'd wound up with that many. I mean, it's two character types rather than one because Robin's a Gish rather than a straight sword type, but still.

Ike does play differently from Marth/Lucina/Roy. And hopefully Corrin will have his own thing.name_here wrote:Hadn't realized they'd wound up with that many. I mean, it's two character types rather than one because Robin's a Gish rather than a straight sword type, but still.

From the video, Corrin does seem to be a distinct type of melee guy from the others. I could see adding him now if they intended to continue on with the DLC, since his game is out in Japan now and will release in the US soon, but yeah, that's still a bunch.

I'm disappointed with Cloud. I don't mind the character's inclusion, but rather his implementation. I figured he'd be a gish of some sort (like he was in FFVII), but instead he's just another sword guy a la most of the Fire Emblem guys. I blame Advent Children.

The reason why FE gets a lot of characters is because FE has been HUGELY popular in the last years. FE Awakening was a massive hit, Fates is coming, and one of the secondary objectives of SSB is marketing Nintendo's characters (hey guys a new FE is coming with Roy) and appeal to nostalgia (hey guys do you remember the first FE with Marth?).
This is, we probably would've never had FE outside of Japan if not for the fact Marth and Roy were included in a SSB game and Nintendo realized "holy crap the foreigners actually like this characters, let's localize this stuff!"
Fire Emblem Fates is upon us, and Corrin is being included in SSB as a "buy my game!" ploy.
EDIT: Also some people got pretty butthurt their favorite indie character didn't win:

Hector DLC would probably sell pretty well. Bonus points if we can play with the awesome beard FE6 version.OgreBattle wrote:A Fire Emblem character that uses a spear or axe would be nice.

Don't get me wrong, I love Shantae. Hell, I voted for her five times. But I'm not gonna go start a twitter war over the fact that she lost.
(Granted, I also really love Bayonetta, but still...)

So, hey, Smash 5 is coming! (5mash? Sma5h?)
Anyway, I thought I'd take this opportunity to lay out what I would like to see in the game.
First, character wish-list.
1. LITERALLY ANYONE OR ANYTHING FROM DRAGON QUEST. I mean, it's my favorite game series of all time, it was the progenitor of the modern JRPG, the series is insanely popular in Japan, and it's steadily gaining in popularity here in the states. I don't care who or what they put in, just gimme some DQ, dammit!
2. Shantae
3. Lana or Linkle from Hyrule Warriors
4. Primarina or Mimikyu for the Gen VII representative.
Note that I don't necessarily think these characters have a chance in hell of getting into the game, they're just what I would like to see. Pipe-dreams, y'know?
As for the whole thing with clones... It's not my biggest worry. Making them alternate costumes instead of full characters would make the most sense, but this is Sakurai we're talking about here, and he is not famous for doing what makes sense.
I would also love it if they brought back Adventure mode, and never again tried anything remotely like Smash Tour. Seriously, fuck that shit.

Smash Switch? Switch Smash?
My wish-list:
0. Alis, Nei and/or Red Ring Rico as said in the past.
1. Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Rex can come along too so we get some Ice Climbers+Zelda/Sheik hybrid where you control two characters and one can be "transformed".
2. Twintelle, although anybody from ARMS would be good too.
3. Mipha, although one of the other non-Link champions from Breath of the Wild would be good too.
4. The generic character from Dark Souls. If his final smash connects, the screen goes black and shows the classic "you died" message.

To be fair Sakurai being willing to try out things out crazy things for Smash is part of the series charm.Shrapnel wrote: As for the whole thing with clones... It's not my biggest worry. You have a favorite Dragon Quest, Shrapnel?
Torneko would be fun, a bag full of items and equipment to pull out. DQ is more iconic than Fire Emblem so lots of characters would fit. Dragon Lord would be great, Smash is turn into a huge dragon.
If I could choose from any series...
Demifiend from SMT: Nocturne, have some summoning moves as graphics for some attacks
Yugi from Yu Gi Oh could be a lot of fun, play like Pokemon Trainer
Greymon, digivolve to Metal Greymon or Skull Greymon temporarily
Hellboy
Brolly
Ramza Beoulve (with 3 alternate outfits), Smash attack is chain shouting until he takes 10 turns in a row. Special moves are
- Neutral: throw rock, charge to throw many rocks
- Down: Shout, hold to become ultima localized on himself
- Side: Tackle/Dash, like a falcon punch in speed
- Up: Tailwind, a Pikachu-like quick dash
...ah I wish Dissidia played more like Smash
