Here's what I will say about the importance of sports:

In any game (like football, basketball and baseball) the rules define the play space in a very clear and unambiguous way. It is very easy to compare two players and easily determine their quality. This is very different from society as a whole where difference in achievement often result from very real handicaps imposed by society. Achievement in sports is one of the most significant venues in which people of color have been able to PROVE equality. African American achievement in sport is a significant portion of the display space for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Ahh god damnit the other day I saw a screencap of a twitter argument where this guy calls another guy "someone who would rape women" and then goes on to talk about he knows that because he's raped multiple women and knows all men are trash. The screencap was titled "the woke rapist", but... the guy who posted the screencap just got banned from twitter for telling a guy who defended pussy grabber movie critic devin faraci to suck a dick.

I don't understand "fuck sports" as a whole. Sure I make sportsball jokes, but even then I like watching tennis and think sports are fun. Sportsball is just a joke to bother friends who are fans when they repeatedly bring up a sport I've told them I don't give a shit about in the past. I do not care about this goat of yours, but I think it's adorable you named your pet Tom.

I wasn’t raised to care about professional sports, but I don’t have any strong animus either. For my parents they mostly dont care unless our local team is doing well... my dad always is rooting against the home teams just so the news would talk about them less when they get knocked out of playoffs.

Yeah, I always root against the Red Sox because their home games flood my public transportation routes with drunken yahoos.

Boo to that. I wish more nerds would pay attention to sports. I'm sick of making moe jokes about Kawhi Leonard and having nobody catch the pun.
I got that, you dirty bastard.

I was the fat weird kid as a little boy, and the thing that Americans call soccer and real people call football was this arena where I was expected to be speedy and a team player, even before we get into it being a huge symbol of toxic masculinity and celebrity culture, of brutes being paid millions for contributing nothing to society and still being patsies.

Sort of the same, here. I was the weird fat kid growing up as well, and sports never interested me. I just didn't see the point. On top of that, the people who played and enjoyed sports were the same people who made my life shit growing up because of the things I did like.

As I became an adult, I became aware of some of the really shitty things going on in sports, what with all the professional athletes who raped people, beat their wives, ran dog fights, whatever, though I must admit they seem the minority. Then, I found how sports can be intriguing in a manner of just "can this person do this thing?" Then I became aware of the very thing deaddmwalking mentioned, that sports is one of the few areas where racial minorities can improve their economic standing in America.

But then also, a lot of the old white fucks who run the various sportsball things are really shitty people.

So... let me modify my statement: Fuck Sportsculture, and I just don't find sports themselves interesting, but I'm glad that apparently the team that represents black people in the culture war beat the team that represents Trump and white fucks in the culture war.

My "sports" were more things like ballet - my mom didn't care what physical activity we engaged in, as long as we engaged in one. My sister took horseback riding lessons and cheerleading. I don't really enjoy watching most sports, but I did get into soccer because my brother played.

I'm not really into the machismo of sports, but as a parent, it's been good for my son to play. He has to think about other people and how to enable them to do their job on the field; it's also been a really good focus for his energy.

Me, my feelings are that it's a lot more fun to play in a sport than it is to watch other people playing it. I feel the same way about video games and anything involving Gary Chalk.

I mean, I'm not very athletic, but I still enjoy playing soccer or whatever, if only because it's fun to run around and kick things.

Found this on Reddit and couldn't stop laughing at it for a good minute and a half.

I have a friend who will reflexively give a random nugget of advice, without really considering the situation. This leads to conversations like:

ME: Another catfish. Seriously. Is it too much to ask to set up a date with someone who actually exists?!
HER: Maybe your standards are too high.

Hey, a lot of people seem to find quite a bit of meaning and happiness in relationships with fictional women.

It actually makes a lot of sense that if your standards are too high then you only connect with people creating false personas. But I’ll ignore that because it is too funny to misinterpret it.
