Smiling, you lift the bird from your pouch and fling it into the air. The bird takes wing and flies away, much to the nearsighted giant's bemusement.
The giant grumbles. "FAIR IS FAIR. I PROMISED TO TAKE YOU TO MY TREASURE. FOLLOW ME." Gain 1 Honor and one Persistence.
We're told to go directly to encounter 49, I guess he carries us?
Here is a 20-foot tall wall. A mammoth slab of stone blocks the only entrance.

• If the giant is with you... √
• Climb it?
• Leave?
The giant lifts the huge slab gate and you step through. Then, with an evil laugh, he drops it back in place, barricading you within.
We must either try climbing the wall to get out again, or go on to encounter 10. I feel like this sequence suggests that encounter 10 may not be great, so I'm not going to auto-proceed to it.

I think there might be something worthwhile at 10, unless 10 is the trap and we're supposed to just kill the giant for loot.

Roll 1d20 (If you lack rope and grapple, add +4); if less than 15, you fall (roll 1d6, or 1d4 indoors).
I'm pretty sure rope and grapple is meant to be a bonus rather than a penalty. I think 'lack' replaced 'have' somehow. [d20+4:10]. We fall! [d6:4]
Your fall is abruptly halted by the rope looped through your belt (if you lack a rope, roll again); take 1d4 damage. [d4:2]
Should we keep climbing until we succeed, or check out 10 after all?

Check out 10 so we don't have to climb back here.

Before you lies the ruin of a once-mighty city. To explore these ruins, use the 'Fallen Glory' map. If you find a number, turn to that entry. A small circle is a trap (W170+1d6). Fire causes double damage to the creatures found here.
Unexpected.

• Venture into the ruins?
• Try climbing out of the blind valley again?

Ambushed by a bear? Lose 1 honor. Trick a giant? Gain 1 honor.

Joking aside, the game is pretty decent so far for a bunch of encounters you can choose from.

Those seem pretty reasonable for an elf honor code to me.

What is the "fallen glory map"? Can we see it?

It's mostly behind 'magic viewer' obscurement at the moment, but sure.

From the START, you follow lines to find traps and encounters.

Let's go in.

How do we regain spells, by the way? By returning home and taking a score penalty for being seen as a wet blanket?

There seems to be no provision for regaining spells.

I'm not 100% sure if these lines are just abstract avenues of exploration or meant to have some relation to actual avenues in the city. In any case, we've hit a 5-way intersection.

• West?
• North?
• East?
• Southeast?

In the center of the square, a dozen scavengers fight over a corpse. The beasts are 3 foot long hognosed rats with long tails. You must attack them to cross this area. You may try to scare them by charging: they must roll greater than their Evade or flee, but if they stay they will get 2 free attacks.
We [d6:5] are not surprised. The rats [d6:4] are not surprised.

What's their evade, what are the odds? I say try to scare them if they're better than 50-50, and just melee them to save our spells. Dual wield if we can, so we can get two kills a round.

Under standard procedure, we don't get to see statblocks until after we make our first-round choice.

The bandits had 13, bears have 16... it's probably slightly better than 50-50. I say charging is worth a punt.

The giant rats use the wolf statblock, apparently.
12 Wolves; Save 16; Evade 14
Talk –; AC 7; THAC0 17; Atk: d6
Spcl: 1-2 (M94), 3-4 (M95), 20 (M96)
Immune: Hold, Invisible; TS –
XP 10; HP 10 each
Checking for charge result [d20:7]<14. Startled, the critters flee. We can pass unimpeded.

This plaza is carpeted with sawtoothed plants and roofed by an arbor overgrown with vines.

• Cross the plaza?
• Swing across on a vine?
• Climb the arbor?
