How close to the end were we? I'm wondering if this was another Sword of the Samurai situation.

We were about to enter a deadly maze, full of, "Pick west, east, or north. If you picked east, you die." If we could have threaded our way through the entire maze--which, realistically, we never, ever would have--the President is in it (as is an android President who stabs you at one of the death passages but I digress), and while getting away with him is not guaranteed, it is actually pretty straightforward and feasible if you reach him.
