When you open the door, one of the man's eyes flicks open. He seems, however, unconcerned at your intrusion and remains stretched out in his rocking-chair.

Ask him if he is the Healer?
Just tell him you are lost?

The man springs out of his chair and says, 'Indeed I am. What ails you, stranger?' You tell the old man about your adventures in the ice caverns and the spell that is slowly destroying you. The old man smiles and says, 'Death Spells? They are easy to counteract. You just need a jar of my special mixed herbs, a bargain at only 50 Gold Pieces.' You are surprised that the man wants to charge you money to save your life, but he seems quite adamant.

Pay him for the herbs?
Threaten him?

You draw your sword and advance toward the old man, asking him why he is so eager to acquire blood-money. You pin him against the wall holding the point of your sword under his chin and ask him to explain why a so-called philanthropic healer requires 50 Gold Pieces for saving a life. The old man starts to tremble and says, "All right, I'm sorry, I'm not the Healer. I am only a simple herbalist, down on my luck. I figured that soon you wouldn't be needing your gold anyway, so you wouldn't mind me having some of it. I realize that it was a foolish thing to do. Listen, you can have some of my own pills that stop my aches and pains. They might help. No charge of course." With your sword tip still pinning him up against the wall, he reaches into his robe and pulls out a small bottle. He opens it and hands you three green pills. You grab the pills and leave the hut, telling the old man that he is lucky to be alive.

Swallow the pills?
Discard them?

Throwing away the pills wins 3-1.

You spot a small open space between the rocks and trees on the far bank of the river. Something is cooking over a fire, you can see the smoke rising; but there is no one to be seen--perhaps they saw you first and are hiding. The river runs fast and is quite narrow at this point. Large rocks jut out of the river and it would be possible to cross over by leaping from rock to rock.

Cross the river?
Keep walking up the river valley?

I vote to keep walking up the river valley, as I feel that crossing the river might be a trap that our hero does not have the Stamina to expend to get out of.

Crossing the river may very well be a trap but I don’t know how much longer this book goes on for so we might need the food anyways. Doing things is more fun than not doing things so I’ll vote in favor of crossing the river.

Crossing the river wins 2-1.

The rocks are slippery and far apart. In your current condition you find it difficult to jump from rock to rock. Roll 1d6; is your result 1-3 or 4-6?

Your roll is 6.

You nearly slip off a couple of the rocks, but manage to reach the far bank safely.

As you approach the fire, you smell the delicious aroma of a duck being roasted. You draw your sword and walk warily forward. Suddenly a sinewy man with long hair and a beard jumps out from behind a rock, screaming at the top of his voice. He is wearing animal furs and carrying a stone club which he raises to attack you. You must fight the WILD HILL MAN.

WILD HILL MAN Skill 6 Stamina 5

You can Escape after two rounds, but considering his stats I'll only call for votes on that if you lose them both.

Round One: Robert wins by 7. Wild Hill Man is at 3 Stamina.
Round Two: Wild Hill Man wins by 1. Robert is at 9 Stamina.
Round Three: Robert wins by 3. Wild Hill Man is at 1 Stamina.
Round Four: Robert wins by 3. Victory.

The Wild Hill Man carried nothing of interest to you. However, the duck is ready to eat and you enjoy a delicious and nourishing feast; restore 4 Stamina points.

Go back across the river over the rocks?
Follow a goat path up the side of the hill behind the clearing?

Sure, let's try the goat path. I really hope we find the Healer soon, though. It feels like the Snow Witch was dealt with years ago and now we're just wandering around.
