How's Pathfinder 2nd edition now?

Post by OgreBattle »

Mainly compared to it's main competition D&D5e.

Do the class's offer any interesting mechanics, do some outright obviously suck and others dominate? Does it have an alright or good or terrible bestiary for the player characters to face off against?

I remember fiddly +1 modifier stuff for stacking attack actions 3 times, that seemed dumb. Is that the main way attacks are done in the game or can it be ignored?

I cannot tell you anything about the actual game mechanics or general community response.
But I can post these Roll20 statistics:

Is this like that episode of Pen and Teller's Bullshit where they manipulated a statistic to say America's favorite pet was a giant mecha praying mantis?

I don't think 5e is interesting so compared to 5e you wouldn't really be doing worse. The difference would mainly be that in classic paizo fashion the game is more fiddly in places than it needs to be.

Maybe if you haven't gotten tired of doing spreadsheets for fun for their own sake (I admit, I have at times thought of Excel as a fun toy), then adding more mechanics can make a game better than 5e on that merit alone. But if you have, then taking longer to resolve an action in the game just makes it worse. From what I remember of my casual read through of pf2 when it came out, the diversity or customizability of what your character could actually do was not at all notable.
If you want an RPG that takes too long to resolve every action but has cool things to do, I bet there's an edition of Shadowrun you haven't played too much yet.

I enjoyed Lancer the last few times I played it. I can say I legitimately enjoyed the combat in it.
