In most game systems, miscast risks are often a terrible way to balance it as it is only fun when it used in a light-hearted fashion or it is self-inflicted & only extends that far. In a cooperative game, people rarely like it when George has a bad roll & hits himself in the crotch in a vita...

You could make it so a creature with a Zendikar grappling hook mass has a 5 ft climb speed which can be sped up by making use ropes &/or climb checks. So, if they aren't good with it, they can climb slowly safely by just taking a long time, while someone with climb & use rope could climb at ...

Unbreakable looks interesting so throw my support in for your review there.

I'm also interested in Faerie Fire, as I want to see if they had interesting monster idea's in it or if it's some boring monster set with a strange aesthetic.

In my experience, players continued to do whatever they did in one system even when they transition over to another system, especially in the case of going from 3.5 to 5e & back. Players who are good at the game will be good at the game. Players who are idiots & struggle to play the game in ...

I still run a very consistent game, but I can see that drying up within a couple years as many people in my group are on the edge about staying in the community & thinking about moving away. I agree with Krusk that the idea that just breaking into the forum is a very difficult thing. Not only ar...

Well, that was a slight mess-up in reading on my end, but the forced split only at very specific levels (the point you unlock them) I feel is the best way to implement the concept. It makes it so the character is partially forced to interact with both exploits & devices but makes it so that a lo...

1) The difference between a d8 & a d6 HD is not really noticeable at any levels except the very lowest & the very highest. It's really more of a personal preference. 2) Would this change result in a the Rogue's techniques known being lowered by one or would it remain the same? 3) Assuming yo...

On the topic of the Crusader, You could get two birds with one stone by just adding a sample list of suggested monsters at various levels & have a short list with 2-3 suggestions for specific levels (level 3, 7, 10, 13, 18, or whatever). This way, you leave the ability as is so people can go boo...

I'd suggest just doing the highs & lows while also making a note somewhere in the post how many feats only give skills as class skills or merely small numerical bonuses to some skills.

Another issue with fail-forward mechanics is that they can often struggle to play nice with other mechanics of the game that aren't fail-forward as well. If a system's skill system is entirely fail-forward while the combat system isn't, then there is a real incentive to just focus solely on combat a...
