Re: D&D Movie
I feel it reflects the "Talk in funny voices at the table and the DM decides it works or gives you a magic artifact to succeed" aspect of Real Play D&D. The system to play like they do in the movie would be Shadowrun. Maybe the wildshaping is reflavored adept powers. Latest check says ...

Re: Respec is a base game mechanic
Money can sorta be the measure of how much your respec loot castle can hold and what's guarding it. Spent on the sorcery tower of research, secure vault of slaying weapons, skilled smiths to produce slaying weapons to slay the next thing you're after, training grounds for troopers to protect the sto...

Re: Respec is a base game mechanic
Wizard Cleric Druid being the "respec is their class feature" classes is certainly a big part of their dominance, especially if a game is paired with "no you have to dedicate your warrior to one specific weapon forever". Disarming a spell, taking it... would "I use a mirror ...

Burning a fire demon to death with Giga Hell Super Flames is a cool story thing that should work in "the everything fantasy RPG". I had that conversation with someone buying a box of grey knights at the shoppe. They have a system with a To Hit roll, To Wound roll, Saving Throw, and Wounds ...

How's Pathfinder 2nd edition now?
Mainly compared to it's main competition D&D5e. Do the class's offer any interesting mechanics, do some outright obviously suck and others dominate? Does it have an alright or good or terrible bestiary for the player characters to face off against? I remember fiddly +1 modifier stuff for stackin...

Re: How to Implement Save or Dies in a Balanced D&D System
I think Save or Dies should be approached in regards of D&D being a team based game So... going in alone into the Tomb of Bulldookie you walk into the portal and die But going with friends there's an opportunity for someone to also roll a save to save you This is just a formative idea, but you k...

"Fate" mechanics to survive death X amount of times or risk it is the most straightforward way to do it.

Re: D&D 5e E-sports
I've been enjoying D&D5e as a dungeon crawler, the classes feel different enough at lvl4+ with our "start with an extra feat" rule. Also play with people that houserule stuff the way I agree with... but the extra feat really does a lot for getting concepts online before you have more H...

Re: Why no Classplosion in 5e?
The 5e Classes I'd say are fun to build are... Warlock: Big changes between subclasses, some oddities like using Proficiency to damage seems like this class was the first one fleshed out then they had to make sure the other classes were Not Too Fun Sorcerer: Kinda Warlock-like in how subclasses affe...

Re: 5E: Summons still suck
D&D tends to be taken as "Rules as second by second inch by inch physics simulation", so multiple thingies running around is a pain to manage and when you abstract them there will be enough internet folks to go "BUT REALISTICALLY..." I've been enjoying using a Wildfire Druid ...

Re: Size Difference in RPGs
Protean covers the range of Kirby bosses so that's convenient
Size is important for combat grids, tabletop base contact. How would you handle a big snake though, I don't like D&D's square horses but it's convenient

As an extra note, having a universal list of modifier categories will help with giving penalties and bonuses to different magic systems, and also help with non-magical 'mundane' effects also have an impact (Torch vs light sensitive monster doing the same thing as a dazzling spell)

Could have 1d6*10 once a threshold is reached, like a less extreme RIFTS(TM) MegaDamage Can also do the magic weapon DR thing but with spell levels. So the Fireball caps at 6d6 but against higher level opposition the damage is reduced by half, against equal level you deal full damage For a non d20 s...

Maybe it varied with different factions and countries so they decided character class should do that too

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
That tends to happen when the base gameplay is kinda limited in effective options. Like in every D&D edition the warrior "deals HP damage" instead of lighting stuff on fire, pushing into holes, flipping tables or even holding ground. There's a lot of co-op hack and slash games where tw...

I figure so. Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
Every edition of D&D can't keep two classes balanced with each other from 1 to 20, or even one class balanced against CR enemies from 1 to 20. I figure the problem doesn't even start with open multiclassing but single classes going for 6+ levels and hitting those "Wizard gets a new tier of ...

Well, I think another perspective is, especially in a sandbox, sometimes PCs encounter things more dangerous then their CR. Frostmaiden in particular tries to drive some of this home, and it fits in with the theme of a remorseless, brutal, never ending winter that exists because a god of Winter is ...

For me, 5e Hexblade 1 granting "CHA to melee attacks" and Paladin 2 granting smite and shield reaction, then the rest of the levels in sorcerer or warlock, is a great example of a small multiclassing dip opening up character concepts. So... you lose 1 to 2 levels of sheer arcane power, but...

Has the soft roleplay effect of building temples to your god, teleportation circles or arcane libraries. I figure for the warriors and crime lords they'll increase their reputation n' organization influence further and further
