Re: Ignoring things that ignore the ignoring of...
First, the idea that fire elementals should be immune to fire is a bit weird. I mean, adventurers are made of flesh and bones, and they aren't immune to punches. Even beings made of <thing> should feel something when <thing> moves in a very violent way against them. So I think most effects that gran...

Re: D&D Movie
It was rather bold of them to recognize that Monty Python is as much part of D&D's DNA as Tolkien or Jack Vance. It was certainly one of the movies of all time and I hope it doesn't bomb so they make sequels.

But as I've been thinking about it, I'm wondering if 1st level would work just as well to reflect that. Mostly I'm unsure about spellcasting classes, beefsteak is easy to say a first level Rogue is a kid who's just stolen a lot and a first level fighter is a kid who worked as part of the local watc...

Anarcho-communism will always, ALWAYS, give way to entropy. Someone doesn't have to "step up" to take command when a group of anarchists is essentially just individuals, the "leader" just has to be better at everything than anyone else... Which isn't hard with no infrastructure ...

As an Atheist (tips Fedora) I don't like actual gods in my games. In my campaigns/world-building, the multiverse is simply too big for actual creator gods. Life, the sentient species and everything else came into being through mechanical processes, that are somewhat more colorful than the ones we ge...

Re: Have there ever been good sex rules for D&D?
What are you trying to accomplish? If the objective is to have sex-as-comedy as part of the game, you need to step back and realize the game doesn't even deal with comedy yet. I mean, it's usually great when you have a DM or player that's a genuinely funny person, but there are no in-game rewards/pe...

Re: Is DnD the most popular because of ease?
For all the reasons people mentioned here, I think D&D constant popularity is a chicken and egg situation, where the egg is that D&D was the first big name RPG, having basically created and defined the genre; and the chicken being that D&D works well enough for the majority of people pla...

It's terrifying that covid19 is a godsend for actual authoritarian populists: the pandemic presents a chance to give government money directly to a large swath of the population AND a situation where smart people don't want to leave home (to say, protest). If Trump was 1% of the 7D chess player his ...
