Reducing use of language that furthers bigotry and negative stereotypes is a hill I will die on.
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Even if it doesn't get through to him that using bigoted language is bad, if he understands that using bigoted language will 100% of the time get his thread derailed the desire to avoid that annoyance might change his behaviour.

So you insult me, be it dick, asshole, sperg, cis male or whatever.Omegonthesane wrote:This.Prak wrote:Because, you dick, there's a difference between insulting someone, or telling someone of, say, go fuck yourself, and using language which promotes and reinforces negative stereotypes. Had to read Count's post multiple times and this seems to be the only candidate.
And regardles of the vocabulary it sounded more descriptive to me than insulting.
How easily are Denners insulted nowadays?
Sad day.
It's the difference between calling someone an Australian comma (outside of America where that's much more gendered) and calling them a British slang term for cigarette.
I care (or not) that you insulted me, not how you insulted me.
I do see the point of insulting a third party by using the wrong vocabel, but then I dont go around insulting people anyway. So it's not something really relevant to me...
But somehow I don't think Count is concerned about third parties being insulted. Might even be an bonus for him?

You don't think it's childish to start wrecking up the place because I used a word you don't like that isn't covered under the board's (admitedly loose) CoC? I don't own this board. And let's face it, this board is the asshole of the internet, trying to destroy this board would be like trying to embarass a poo by making it wear a poo-shaped hat.Omegonthesane wrote:Even if it doesn't get through to him that using bigoted language is bad, if he understands that using bigoted language will 100% of the time get his thread derailed the desire to avoid that annoyance might change his behaviour.
In this moment, I am Ur-phoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my int score.
You don't think it's childish to respond to people who call you out for bigoted word use by saying "nyah nyah! the rules say it's fine!"

Oh right, now I understand. I am somewhat intoxicated so I was thinking too literally, like how Americans call the full stop a period and other people laugh at you for it. Not "our favourite word that we use as punctuation."

I don't give a fuck if it's childish so long as it doesn't punch down at marginalised groups. Stellaris, in this order
Fuck:
The new galactic community System.
The gating of the "Bigger than ourselves" Edict behind stupid galactic community bullshit.
The Horrors they inflicted on Synths and biological Hive Minds.
Habitats.
Ring Worlds.
Ecumenopolis.

Going to need a deep dive into every part of this for someone who stopped playing stellaris.

The Galactic community is the UN in SPAACEE . .
And is about as effective as well . .
Everybody allways only cares about their diplomatic weight.
The AI is literally coded to try and maximize that alone, no matter the other costs.
EVEN IF THEY WILL BE IN BREACH OF GALACTIC LAW AND SUBJECT TO SANCTIONS BECAUSE OF IT, they will STILL vote for something that will marginally increase their diplomatic weight / power . .
"Bigger than ourselves" is an Edict that you can get SOMEHOW if the galactic community votes on it being active . . which nobody ever does because it does not increase their diplomatic weight.
It is supposed to be automatic pop migration AWAY from overcrowded worlds or worlds with no jobs or low amenities . .
The Robots and the Tyrannids now have different jobs like everybody else and they all need amenities as well . . And their housing / job ratio is completely out of whack as well so you can never easily have a planet with as much housing space for your workers and jobs for them to work . . Unlike non gestalt empires, where this is actually much easier because the ratio is usually 1:1 for districts . .
Habitats. They can not produce food. They can produce EITHER science, minerals, or energy. NEVER more than one of those because it depends on WHAT type of ressource you build them above . . So they will never be self sufficient and still be overcrowded and riddled with unemployment in no time and suffer from low amenities.
Ring World Sections are actually STILL WORSE . . they can produce food, literally one segment can produce enough food to feed the whole galaxy if you want it to . . and the housing and jobs are basically in line with each other . . but they can not produce energy or minerals at all. And they consume vast ammounts of both to produce science and trade and customer goods for amenities and also not enough for the population you have on them. ONE such segment fully loaded up with pops will quite happily eat through ALL THE RESSOURCES your by then already gigantic empire can produce . .
Ecumenopolis is a city planet, which can actually house even more population than any ring world segment alone . . and not produce food, energy or minerals . . only again basically trade worth and consumer goods and amenities and not enough for their own population again, if loaded up . .
Basically, Habitats, Ring Worlds and Ecumenopolis are all happy to auto cannibalize your entire empire . . while giving you basically fuck all aside from potentially huge science and trade value, which helps with fuck all in most cases . .

I think I've played enough Stellaris and enough versions of it to just say that it's a bad game.
There are no tactics to the combat, just some light Rock/Paper/Scissors to ship design. There is no strategy to the war-fighting, just having bigger and more piles. There is no fun to the planet building, just endless accounting. There is no joy in the exploration because the galaxy quickly runs out of wonders. The diplomacy is just a game of tweaking numbers that has little effect on the other gameplay elements. It's not even a pretty game.
It's a vast game. It's a complicated game. It's a game that wildly over-promises and teaches you that space is boring.

A role playing game doesn't need terribly deep or strategic systems in order to satisfy someone's roleplaying desires. I reflect fondly on both of my Stellaris runs even though both of them fizzled out without reaching any proper ending.
It's not like there are that many other singleplayer role playing games to choose from... Crusader Kings II? Maybe Minecraft or Besiege? Those are the closest other ones I can think of...

You can easily tell because a ton of the forum fanboys are of the paint huffing "Single player games shouldn't even try to be balanced" set. I suppose that could be called a difference of opinion, but I'd stress to developers that going that route is a great way to make sure you never get my money again.

I think Stellaris, like most Paradox games, is good at piling on a lot of insignificant modifiers, so it appears as though if you know what you're doing, those will add up to something worthwhile. I am guessing the people who are actually good at the game are skilled at larger-scale things and a handful of tricks that mess with the AI, but there is too much little crap to know one way or the other for sure.
It is very much a game of snowballing. Either you get a good start, build a strong economy, and out-tech everyone else from 2250 onwards; or you don't, and some genocidal empire on the other side of the galaxy gets too big for the AI to stop, and it's just a matter of time until they reach your doorstep. The galaxy-wide events can either make things interesting again or take the place of the fanatic purifiers (or just be a competing threat with them), depending on how the game is going.
To be perfectly honest, I'd describe "high-level" single player Stellaris as more of a toy than a game. The PvP community find things to be well-balanced with a rather short banlist.
