Do people even give a fuck about Driz'zt anymore? I just read this press release for Rage of Demons and what I basically got out of it is "DMPC: The Adventure Path."

If the second roll is higher than the first roll, the character is not considered dead, but a lone child. Same as it w...

Night Goat makes a solid point. I would also submit a narrower point along those same lines: in your desire to appeal to both catfolk and hobbit fans, you might end up appealing to neither.

20 Ranks: Whenever you attempt a caster level check, attempt a Spellcraft check at a –20 penalty at the same DC. If the spellcraft check succeeds, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus on your caster level check.
Is this as fucking stupid as I think it is?

The issue isn't WHAT he is inspired by; it's that he doesn't seem to understand the difference between "inspiration" and "copyright infringement."

I don't know if anyone linked to this interview before, but my favorite part of it is the part where Harper all but admits to ripping off Dishonored. I wish I could charge people $3,000 to have someone else design a class for me. But alas, I haven't written an "award-winning" game. I'll ju...

D&D never really got an organized gaming scene. Most people can't even fully agree how the D&D rules work for any edition. If I meet another MTG player, neither of us need to discuss shady wording interpretations or dozens of pages of houserules just to set up a game. That's partially becau...

The rate at which Den threads spiral from "potentially productive discussion about game design" to "caustic squabbling about technicalities, laden with obscenities and the spectre of sexual violence" never ceases to amuse me.

So the real problem is that D&D has been staffed for years by a bunch of mouthbreathing fanfic writers with no concept of how "companies" or "products" work. Also "math."

So at least it's comporting with historical precedent.

Since this is veering into "how to save D&D" territory, I always wondered why WotC never tried to do any serious cross-promotions between its two major brands. Toxic, feuding corporate culture is probably a factor, and it probably didn't seem worth the MtG department's time to try and ...

Lovecraft is public domain. The King in Yellow is public domain. Lots of Mythos material from the 30s and before is public domain. More recent material is not. Calling someone a liar is a great way not to have to address the substance of their claims. It doesn't matter if they're right; they're liars! Also, yes, definitely on the "moral high ground" bit. Part of he-who-apparently-shall-be-named-frequently's strategy was to claim that his opponent...

The videos and the articles where they mocked people for things they liked in 3.0 and 3.5 was hysterically bad public relations work. At least by pulling barbarians, bards, druids, monks, sorcerers, gnomes and half-orcs they proved the 5 Percent Rule. One person out of 20 is disappointed about some...

Here's a convenient list for you. By my count, you've committed the following: Argument from anecdotal evidence (my friends think 4E is cool) Argument from ignorance (you can't prove that I'm wrong, so I'm right) Argument from silence (you can't show me data [even though we did] so I'm right) Shift...

I think that you will find the collective opinions of the Denners to vary wildly, except for one unifying factor: their ideas will be at least somewhat intellectually defensible.

Yours are not.
