Question about the 5-foot step

Post by MrWaeseL »

Is it true that if you take a 5-foot step out of another's threatened area and then take an action that provokes and AoO you still suffer that AoO? (So if Mialee takes a 5ft move back out of the orc's threatened area and casts a spell afterwards, the orc still gets an AoO.)

I run that as a house rule, but officially I don't know anywhere that says that, unless it was a hidden change in 3.5 that I missed.

No. That is not true. Actions are taken in some order, so the Wizard can keep stepping backwards and casting as long as he still has space behind him to do so.

It is not true (unless your enemy has a Reach Weapon, of course).
