Wait -- on the one hand you're saying that you should be able to wade in with fists a-flyin' without provoking an AoO. But then you say that you need to "duck in" in order to do it i.e. you need to duck to avoid some kind of attack.

To me, "I duck in and punch" sounds like "an AoO misses me and I make an attack".

Rej, did you take Child Necromancer? Cause damn your necromancy CL is epic.

I would guess that neither of the people you said anything to has posted here in the last year, and that neither will ever read this.

When you gain an AoO, that's +1 attacks, not x2 attacks.

Gawd I hate my arguments in this thread, they were so terrible 'cause everyone already said the points I had.

I always wondered why there wasn't a base amount of reach to weapons - swords got a 5' reach, knives and punches got none, so you had to buy a feat to get that range that bigger weapons had.

Hah! You should be more like me.

Ahem.

Of course, the stuff I was right about didn't have much bearing on the actual mechanical implications. It is too bad that there isn't an easy way to simulate during a sword fight the two opponents locking swords and punching each other in the face or doing a judo throw or something.

Perhaps after having been in unarmed reach with an opponent in melee for over 1 full round you may initiate a grapple without provoking an AoO.

In retrospect, upping unarmed damage does make a whole lotta weapons obsolete depending upon how far you take it. Also it may strain credibility a bit to have punches be much more powerful than daggers. Then again, people can be stabbed many times without dying, and conversely one precisely aimed punch or dagger could be fatal. *shrugs*

Brobding's RoW-esque style feat did seem uber-powered though. Stun save every time you land a hit? Dizzamn. Later on, sleep save everytime you land a hit? He should have just skipped those two and jumped right to the end with his Save or Die every time a punch is landed. It works out about the same.

Good times.
