[The Tome of Tiamat] and why can't I play a Dragon.

Post by the_unthinkable »

Ok I've been wanting to play a friggin dragon for a while now, but of course, there isn't a decent way of doing it. Dragon Magazine had progressions, but at 20th level, I came to an average of about juvenal age, and that sucked hard at 20th. If I were playing a fairly high level game I figured I should be able to play one at, I don't know, adult age. I know that dragons are CRed lower than they really are so that might complicate how it is done in the end, but I wanted to know if someone can make a progression for True Dragons here, I would be eternally grateful!

.... you might want to look at example dragons of each CR; then build a class that replicates those abilities.

+4 to whatever CR of the dragon you're choosing at 20th level of course. So, a CR 15 or 16 Dragon, as a PC.
The Gaming Den; where Mathematics are rigorously applied to Mythology.

While everyone's Philosophy is not in accord, that doesn't mean we're not on board.

Well, let's take a look, because frankly, Bigode's Dragon class is ass.

What do Dragons do?

Dragons cast spells.
Dragons Are big, and they hit shit.
Dragons Breath fire.
Dragons fly.

So basically, Dragons are a bullshit jack of all trades class, and like all such classes, they suck.

D12 HD:
Fort: Good, Ref: Bad, Will: Good
BAB: Good.
Skills: 8+Int, who gives a crap?

Dragons get to cast spells like a Sorcerer of level -3 But with Three extra spells known at each spell level because Sorcerers suck. Or make a Dragon list. I don't care.

If you make a Dragon list, make sure you have buffs, and also, make sure you have the ones that increase mobility. Also, if you make a Dragon list, and write a stipulation about not being a bitch and adding to the list in any way, you can give them free Persist spells each day, like 1 at level 1, and one every five levels after. Make it fill the shitty gaps in spellcasting and other class features.

Dragons get a breath weapon that does 1d6 damage per level. Con based. It has a range of 10ft per level. 1d4 round recharge.

Dragons get to be Large at level 6, and Huge at level 12, and Gargantuan at level 16. They also get the size modification stats.

Dragons get a fly speed of 60ft average when medium, 90ft average when Large, 120ft Poor when Huge, and 200ft Poor when really big.

[Insert bullshit change shape and a level appropriate SLA 1/day every four levels, based on type. Fill in gaps where they don't get shit on even levels.]

Dragons don't get to be a race. Because their Race is Dragon.

You can either give all Dragons +2 Str/Con/and Cha, or you can give different types different stats if you care.

What Dragons do: Fly around breathing Fire.
Or Be Big, and cast buff spells to make up for class features.
Or Cast spells like a Cohorts Cohort and suck.
