I am completely done with TVTropes.

It's a great idea for a website and I had fun while I lasted, but I just can't participate in that community anymore.

The prevailing idea of that website is that being nice is more important than being right. Apparently as long as enough people like something it or if enough people don't like something it should be shielded from criticism.

If a show comes up on a 'bad' trope like Damsel Scrappy or Character Derailment or Strawman Has A Point, if anyone objects to their example being put up there unless you have three 'haters' for every one 'defender' it needs to go down.

This is of course antithetical to a website that is supposed to display tropes, both good and bad.

So, I'm done with that website. For good. They can have their Care Bear 'OMG this show is so awesome!' hugbox if they want.

Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

I've never done anything but just read the site (for hours and hours and hours...), so I don't know how things are handled on the posting side. So you really have to have three people object per each person that supports something to get it changed? What kind of voting system is that?

"Well, someone suggested something stupid. Do we have an overwhelming majority to remove this crappy idea from the table? No? Okay, moving on..."

It's an inherent problem with a wiki, and doubly so with one largely for the purpose of covering subjective opinion rather than verifiable fact.

I gave up on TV Tropes about 30 minutes in - I could get over exessive references to obscure anime that nobody will remember in 6 months, but that site really is exhibit A for the problems with hypertext as information formatting.

Seriously, if I want to find out what a "Sleeping Walrus" trope is, they define it as like a "Bored Carpenter" crossed with a "Father William" but distinct from a "Red Queen" in that it does not use the "March Hare" - and I have to go click on each of those links to find out what they mean. And when I do click, each of those links has a definition that relies on another 5 linked tropes to explain - as does each of those tropes. All in all it serves to make the explanations nearly useless unless the user already knows what they mean - and a user who already knows what a given trope means does not need the explanation in the first place.

The format is great for making your website sticky and getting clicks for ad-revenue, but it's fucking useless for actually explaining or learning. Avoid.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

Whenever I go there I end up trapped for hours. But mostly I just go to check the pages on fan service and fetish fuel, and note down the series mentioned under them.

Oh like any of you are surprised.

Not surprised in the least, I hear it gets quite boring in Austrailia.

Anything you would recommend? you seem to have similar tastes as myself in many ways.

Anime: I've always been a fan of Ikkitousen. Witchblade and Daphne are also fantastic (though I'd say the Witchblade American comic is better than the anime), and Grenadier looks pretty cool from what I've seen.

Sadly I can't really think of any live action series that fit the bill there. In "television shows with real people" I've just been watching more British comedy - Black Books, currently, which is hilarious.

The one and only proper way to use TVTropes. Well, other than Entry Pimping your favourite works of fiction and finding new good anime to watch.

In case you wanted to learn how and why TvTropes got the scathing (but accurate) epithet of 'Anti-Intellectualism for Pedophiles', well, there you are.

Check out TV Tropes' Rush Limbaugh page.

Apparently the place is maintained by Limbaugh's fans, and take out unfavorable things in the YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) entry. Remember that time he defended the Lord's Resistance Army (African terrorist organization that rapes children) because Obama sent troops to fight them? Well, this was placed in the YMMV entry, and then it got deleted without explanation.

Oh, and Rush is apparently a Jerk with a Heart of Gold because he donates some of his income to charity. Because donating to charity makes you less of a bigot!

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

surprised? on the contrary, I'm on my phone so I could only see your post, not your name, in the window. I knew it was you just by post.

don't talk about doing that if you make a troper page, though. they find shit like that "creepy"

Well... that's sort of can be expected from a site where an excuse-plot (and, for that matter, really brain bleach-demanding) BDSM series of comics got a quite massive page.

Anyway, I was a prolific troper for a time, but I'm done with TVTropes ever since the blatant repeated attempt to wandalize the Wall Banger section for Star Wars Expanded Universe (note, that similar actions will get you banned if you happen to argue with something mods agree with, even though their ban is laughably easy to bypass) resulted in mods removing the entire section. I mean, if you're not allowed to recite examples of suck from something as famous for massive amounts of suck as Star Wars Expanded Universe books, in a section specifically devoted to talking about books that suck, why not ban negative opinions at all? For a fun fact, I specifically checked just now and no, you are not allowed to put any negative tropes about the ending of Mass Effect 3 (the ending that fails so incredibly hard, that even in a poll on Bioware's own site people who like it are outnumbered 10 to 1) on the game's main page, while the YMMV page seriously devotes more space to lambasting anyone who has problems with the game, than to anything else. Fuck that shit.

Pretty much. I'll read and refer to it, but I don't even try to edit it any more.

My problem was it trying to mitigate the negativity and going too far into nicey-nicey land, until they're claiming that nothing can be badly done at all.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.
