Except that the progressive wing right now isn't in any mood to compromise; in their minds (and I agree) they've compromised enough and to capitulate on health care more than they already have would be the same as rolling over 1994-style.

Your freedom to run/play a game without needing to understand a complex rule system is in direct conflict with my freedom to play a character whose abilities and flaws function as I intended within that ruleset. Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.
In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

Except this has a good chance of happening:
A bill comes up that doesn't have a good public option in it. It comes to the House floor for a vote. But it does have a lot of other good things in it.
So either:
A) Progressives kill the bill and take the blame for not getting any health care reform done. They earn the ire of moderates/independents/Blue Dogs/etc.
B) They capitulate, vote for the bill, and piss off the base for backing down on their promise. Other factions in Democratic party see this as a sign of weakness and begin walking all over them, exacerbating the pissed-off base problem.

More information on healthcare reform from the front-running organization pushing for it. (It is the organization formed from the contact and volunteer list created from Obama's successful Presidential campaign.)

Do you know what 'brownshirts' means?tzor wrote:Ah yes, Obama's "brown" shirts (as opposed to his "purple" shirts; the SEIU) - The lying liars and the wonderful half truths they present as real facts.
Do you have any evidence of any false statements or actual strong arm tactics?
The answer of that is 'no'. Because the evidence you have is either false or out of context.
Either bring up an alternative, or shut up. (strong arm tactic? 'Force' you to actually bother to debate instead of throwing insults?)

I cannot believe the sheer amount of bullshit it takes to choke down in order to characterize the American populace's probably-brief awakening from apathy as anything other than encouraging.
Seriously, is the message "democracy only works when it supports my own personal beliefs and otherwise is the demise of the republic"? Because that's just a myopic pining for autocracy, not belief in democracy.

Unless the break from apathy is "The president is one of those evil black men! Socialist! Socialiiiiist!"mean_liar wrote:I cannot believe the sheer amount of bullshit it takes to choke down in order to characterize the American populace's probably-brief awakening from apathy as anything other than encouraging.

When those groups actually start making arguments and stop yelling, you might have a point. I can't remember the right making a coherent point on health care in my lifetime.tzor wrote:Considering how you easily dismiss conservatives and conservative groups without a shred of evidence to back up your claims I can only say Ms. Pot that I, Mr. Kettle will not play those games.
Here's the truth: Most of the right doesn't know a flying fuck about how our health care system works. At all. The moment you plea to keep the government out of Medicare, you're already a fucking idiot.

I don't remember who posted it, or where it's posted, but I'm pretty sure that someone linked to an article in The Atlantic...?
Did I make that up?
Did I make that up?
My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.
