This is a lot of snow

I took this picture with my laptop's webcam, because I have no other camera.

Philly got a lot of fucking snow the last couple of days. I really wish I was like 8 years younger, so I could enjoy it.

I am really enjoying how in the winter I moved to Vermont, Vermont got nothing and the mid-Atlantic got feet upon feet.

My heart goes out to anyone forced to commute, though.

I mock my parents in Ohio every time they call me here in Texas. I just have to deal with freezing wind.

Here I am in Texas, looking out the window at two inches of snow (and rising).

Well, Texas is big enough to have multiple climates. The only downside here is I still have to go to class.

I couldn't believe everyone lost their shit over 14in-22in of snow. That's fucking pathetic. When I was living in Canada I would drive 30min+ through crazy ass snowstorms to game... or work or shop for groceries or whatever else, because seriously it's a fucking foot of snow that is functionally a few inches on any well-traveled road. I assume that its only hysteria and shitty drivers coming together into a conflagration of DOOM.

The reason people are going crazy over this is because the places that are getting this snow do not have the infrastructure in place to actually deal with the snow.

In Carlsbad NM this year the place received a foot of snow early December when they average about 5 inches of rainfall a year. This completely shut down the city; not because people were flipping out, but because you seriously couldn't drive because there were channels in the road of two-feet deep in water.

A freak snowstorm in New Mexico is not a winter snowfall on the mid-Atlantic coast of America. I see this shit in Boston too and just assume it's lack of winter driving experience more than lacking infrastructure.

It's so cold, it might even snow here in Mobile.

Which hasn't happened in noticeable amounts since...um...1996. Yes, that's right. I was ten years old and had my right arm in a cast so my efforts to make a snowman were very much hampered.
I hope it does snow again.

Irony of the weather: I live in the Cleveland area, which was just named the Worst Weather City in continental 'mrrka, and this winter has been one of the mildest in recent memory. I mean, I've had to shovel the driveway like three times total.

I'm jealous. I was hoping for some snow here like last year, but it's been nothing but the typical Seattle 'extra three months of autumn' winter. I mean, I guess it got cold for a little bit, just no snow...

We don't have winter in the PacNW - just a rainy season (10 months) and a dry season (2 months).

I know. I know.

Thank god we have mountains, I'd never get my snow fix otherwise.

I got snowed on in Berkeley once--about 1.5mm of it. In Olympia I got hit by a full 1/4 cm.

All classes after 3 PM were canceled today and all my friday classes are canceled. And I picked up a random girl's number because of the snow.

Snow in Texas: Hell yeah.

Not actually true. There's the cold rainy season, the not-as-cold rainy season, and the dry season.

And sometimes we get freak weather like snow, or that sunlight stuff.

I have Friday off.

Of course, I have Monday and Tuesday off, too, thanks to Mardi Gras messing with downtown.

That's right. Five-day weekend and I get paid for three of the days.

I'm missing out on all the military training holidays this month due to taking a college option. But it is okay, I'm getting paid to go to class, and don't have to go to actual work unless it's an emergency.

We're having a pretty hot summer at the moment.

Although I did have to pretty much swim my way through the ridiculous storm that we had. The harbour almost flooded.

Here in PGH we lost our shit due to staggering incompetence in the face of record snowfall.

It's not merely that we got the biggest snowstorm in 17 years - it's that we have a brand new public works director and it's that the mayor was out of town for a superbowl party and it's that people here would rather blame such officials without caring how deeply in debt the city is and how the state laws and crying about "unfair" taxation prevent any attempt to address the situation than shovel or salt one goddamn inch beyond the edge of their own parking space / property line.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."
