There are people who "believe" they are Navi. Yes. the blue elves from Avatar. Yes, they seem serious.
This may be the thing that makes all other otherkin look at themselves and say "What the fuck am I doing?" either that or it'll give them a new rallying cry of "at least we're not those fuckheads."
I have no real problem with otherkin of most flavours. You want to be a cat? great, me to, tail, fur, claws, complete disregard for people who feed and care for you, awesome. Do I think I am a cat? no, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shit all over people who do, hell, some of them are kind of hot, so whatever. Plus I can liken myself to various animals and not only not sound crazy, but possibly be attractive to them, so, whatever.
People who think they have the soul of a werewolf? Ok. What the hell's a soul anyway? You want to say your soul is a ravenous shapeshifting monster, fine by me, when you get down to it, a lot of people have stuff like that at their cores.
Then there are these people.
they seriously believe they have the souls of an alien race from a movie that came out last year.
As in, they believe they are, at their core, ten foot tall blue elves who can connect to plants. They liken this to transsexuals being the gender opposed to their body in a "yeah, the body's [this] but what's inside isn't" way that is completely insulting to transsexuals. (if you don't believe they did this, go watch the youtube link.)
What makes these people so crazy? I think it's that they want to play pretend for a little while but have been told they can't because they've grown up so they have to try and legitimize it in some terms that put it beyond reproach. I have no problem with people dressing up and pretending to be something else for a little while. Hell, I'm a gamer and a furry, I can't have a problem with that kind of thing (unless I'm jewish, which I'm not). But saying and believing one hundred percent that you're a fictional alien is fucking nuts, and gives me full fucking license to mock you.
Unless this all some kind of absurdist mockery of otherkinism anyway, in which case it'd be kind of funny. The sad thing is... I don't think it is...
