So with two hours left on the first day of Nano'10, I've written 1936 words.
I started my noir novel. "Skipping out on the tab" is a story that has drunks, detectives, femme fatales, and immigration politics. I've planned to write a chapter a day. Before I write each chapter, I'm going to brainstorm about the chapter for a couple of hours and spend the last few hours before i go to sleep as the time when I'll actually write it. If I hit 50,000 before the end of the month, I'll go back and edit the novel as much as I can. here's to hoping that I'll actually get a second year of finishing Nano. I did it in '04, hopefully 2010 is a lucky year for me.

You should gain sanity for finding out that the problems of a region are because there are fucking monsters there.
Did someone say NaNo? (Decloaking out of lurk mode)
Personally I would reccomend rounding it up to 2000, that way you get a cushion for those days when you can't write.
My novel is based on vampires, werewolves, dreams, the shadowland, and politics. It is inspired by looking at the lyrics of Hotel Califorina and seeing vampires and werewolves mentioned therein.
Back to lurking mode ... with the exception of progress reports.

Last night was a night of no sleep. I use the write or die web app to motivate me. I had it on the harshest setting because I just wasn't writing. I do some of my best writing on a deadline. But at about 4:30 am, I was half asleep and 4200~ words in. I walked away and Write or die's draconian setting deletes characters when you don't write. I had stepped away for a bite to eat...

Now I'm stuck between just giving up for this nano. Or not write for the next couple of days to let of this frustration/self-loathing steam.
