Phastasmagoria has the advantage of having the name "gore" in it. Totally open for use. But people can't spell it, and it's probably too complex to have a six syllable name.

Eventide appears to be a low rent KRPG MMO, as well as a M:tG set. Decently usable term, but the name doesn't really say "Werewolves" to me. Apparently it has some "eternal darkness" meaning to people who played M:tG back in 2008, but I think if a name only calls up the proper connotations to people who recognize it as being "ripped off" from something else, it's a bad name.

Dungeons & Dragons is five syllables, but it's 3 words and people actually say D&D, which is only 3 syllables in most cases. White Wolf was really on to something with their colon based naming convention, as it allows for a longer name to "naturally" shorten to a one word. Unfortunately, for something that so demonstrably contains a lot of WoD ideas, I don't think it's possible to swipe it.

So what about using a short word that is just really really obscure? Like "Cauchemar". Or a two-part term made of short, punchy words? Like "Blood & Fear". Or just plain a word from the game live "Mictlan" or the descriptive and unused "Monster Syndicate"?

Threw 'World of Darkness' into an anagram engine for inspiration; it seemed appropriate. Here's some results that resonated.

Ow.

I looked that up. It turns out there is a "Nocturna" RPG, though it is very obscure. And I hope that it stays that way because it is about horse sex. That is not a joke. You play mares and get claimed by stallions. Actual mares. With like hooves and stuff.

Do not want.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms isn't taken, is it?

Short and sweet terms are easy to remember.

Cauchemar is french for nightmare right? Seems fitting.

How about "Ends of the Night". You can shorten it to 'ends' and sound like a gangstar.

"These nights"?
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

I think The Doors are more thematically appropriate than The Eagles. ;)

I like that generally speaking, hmm... how bout "Edge of Night" it reminds me of "Dark Corners of the Earth." Which is a game or some such back on playstation I think. Then I realize I'm some what partial to that particular naming convention. The "X of Y" Ides of March, Brink of Disaster, World of Darkness. It seems like it very easy to fit that saying into something grandoise and mighty. So heres some shot gunning for it.
(Keep in mind you should probbably say these out loud)
Ends of Night
Edge of Night
Air of Night)
Heir of Night) > These three sound like one thing cool.
Heirs of night)
Hand of night
Demense of Night
Truth of night
Tales of Night
Treaty of night.
Shotgun writing = throw enough words at the screen and you might eventually hit something worth having. After writing that and well,
moving away from the power of prepositions...
How does
"Sundown" sound?

So someone brought The Eagles, and you responded with Gordon Lightfoot? Talk about bringing a bazooka to a knife fight... ;)

It actually doesn't sound bad.

I don't know that type of music, so your references or... attempts at humor (i'm not sure which) are simply lost on me. You lost me at Jim Morrision. Seriously I think that works. "Sundown" or "Heir of Night" sound the best.
I'm glad you like it though... "Sundown" It really says what we want without saying it.
Frank? Orion? Josh? Anybody What do you think?
I kept thinking to put "after" in front of it but Sundown seemed to sound better.

On on another note... On leviathan and Kaiju... are there Cthulhu like fellows? I mean there is a devotion or something that lets leviathans get that big isn't there? I vaguely remeber it.

Sundown sounds very good.

The Mi-Go and the Deep Ones are Lovecraftian, for what it's worth

Sundown works for me. Or, if we want pretension, how about "Fremdheit" (or Verfremd, or Verfremdung)

Perhaps the next project could be to reskin it in a My Little Pony theme.

I am not terribly concerned with competition from a dead online RPG that never got off the ground with 21 total players (I saw a link that said 600+ players but it appears more fantastical a claim than the setting backstory). Because of your post, more people now know about it than ever have in the history of its existence. =-p

Upon closer inspection it isn't even a computer RPG or anything printed. Just a play by post forum LARP or something. I'm not exactly certain how to classify such things but it sounds accurate.

Sundown is a'ight. There's a downloadable RPG with that name apparently. Steer clear of sundowning or sundowners though, that's a term for dementia found often in people in with Alzheimer's that is well known enough that I learned it at work years ago.

Should there be a "you must be this tall for us to care about your prior existence"? I'm not terribly attached to any name I've thrown out there, but it looks like this is going to be a recurring obstacle unless we set some higher threshold of caring about prior usage.

Great, the answers range from Alright to Very Good. It simple and descriptive. Lets go with that unless of course frank steps in and says "fuck no"
On the topic of Lovecraft, I got more than a few of his books in my collection and its my fault I wasn't clear. I was asking a crunch question with a bit of fluff.
1. Are there giant form Deep Ones. Obviously the answer is yes. So Cthulhu has a connonical basis which doesn't matter much but...
2. Kaiju and "The Vow" how often do they slip into the world how was it handled.
This is more about the stories that we include in the book... the oWoD books had these shortstories and or comics in them that kinda pulled me in sometimes even whren I wasn't interested in that world at the time.
For a second When you mentioned the Nezumi and his boys... I was like WTF... but its actually cool when you think about it. That the universe isn't just comprised of things like:
"Rasputin we already have rasputin" but also thing have happend that happend in pop culture.
In ww2 for instance there was a Transhuman, a Deep One, a promethean with the walk of flame talent, and thier associate terrorized variaous axis forces. They did this thumbing thier noses at the vow and were justly killed in a clash with a sect of the sons of marduk led by a revenant.
Some people will get who that is, some won't but the cookies are cool y'know?
Aside from that what I'm suggesting I guess is a timeline, with recoded attacks ala the zombie survival guide.
Don't hate the world you see, create the world you want....

You obviously are not familiar with the old World Wrestling Federation leadership. The smackdown that the World Wildlife Federation lawyers did on them was on a scale with the pic smackdown of Gygax by the Tolkien estate.

It's even better than the generally unknown smackdown that the United Nations did against Jenifer Government Nationstates, an internet web game based on a novel by Max Barry and originally used by Max to promote his novel.

(Edit: Trying to figure out which character is a ":" sucks. Bit.ly is easier.)
