So fucked up.
Yeah. It just seems bizarre that anyone would think that the UN is entangled with some fringe American Christian group.

According to the Afghan government the killings were carried out be Al Qaeda agents using the protest for cover, but that doesn't explain why the protest was at the UN embassy.

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan has been plunged into jeopardy after protesters enraged by the burning of a Qur'an by Christian extremists in the US stormed a UN compound in the north of the country and killed at least seven foreign staff members.
Generally, when I think Christian extremist, I think of abortion clinic bombings, not burning Qur'ans to troll Muslims.

The second article I linked to mentioned that the Director of the Blue Mosque {OK, History, I Wanna Go} thought the perpetrators followed a Taliban mullah and just hit the UN because it was an international target with foreigners.

That's not my fault.

I don't think they care about the connection; they're just looking for an excuse.

A British ex-soldier burned a Koran too, and was indicted for it, as a direct response to someone burning poppies as effigies while shouting British soldiers should burn in hell.

The Muslim who did the latter got the minimum 50 pound fine, because the judge found the free speech aspect too important to go over the minimum, 14th of April we will see how well balanced justice is in the UK.

Considering that the offences had different targets and different social implications, I would not be massively surprised to see different penalties. That said, hate-crime law in the UK has become fairly subtle, and the free speech defence may also work in this case.

I love the aside about the Psubs community. Every time a snorkel semi-sub or one-use coffin sub showed up they'd look at the price tag laugh. But the kevlar coated transport sub? They respect that one. I think everyone does.

I was told by a very vocal anti-muslim on Facebook (a friend of a friend) that the abortion clinic bombings are a myth made up by the liberal media and there has never been a christian-motivated bombing ever.

"Not really Christian"

I've seen some of that sophistry at work. Westboro Baptist Church isn't really Christian, because Christians wouldn't be so hateful. Christians are not people who bad things, so people who do bad things are not Christian.

It's that same kind of Conservapedia definition--Conservatives never deceive people, only liberals deceive people. So if you lie, you're a liberal, and if you're a conservative, everything you say is the truth!

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Of course there have been christian bombings by a number of groups (I am not sure the KKK should be included because as far as I know they mostly burned houses, churches and schools down instead of blowing them up).

One interesting point is that many groups often direct their attack directly against the people that caused the insult. It's not like they bombed Catholics in Ireland because Catholics in Itally did something that angered them.

If I recall most major christian churches did publically decry abortion bombings. To claim that they did not happen is irrational.

Yeah, that's especially harsh on the boyfriend's family since they were not informed like her immediate family. Just like a teenager not to think about the consequences upon other people.

The only people who knew were her mother, the principal, and the superintendent of the school district. Her siblings didn't even know.

I'm really hoping that was sarcasm there. The entire point was to get other people to think about their reactions to her (extrapolated to other girls) getting pregnant.

I can't help but wonder, though, if her boyfriend's family didn't really know. How do you fool someone you're - in theory - at least intimate with, if not sexually involved with, into thinking a pillow is actually tummy-full-of-baby?

At least according to the video linked here, neither the principal or the superintendent knew, but the boyfriend did.

What's sadder still is in that story there is a link to a story about a young actress who's goal in life was to appear in a magazine like Maxim. Talk about setting low expectations for yourself.

So in a couple of weeks, I'll be sort of chaperoning my sister when she goes to a convention that'll be in town. I'm checking up the event pages.

The games section is interesting.

Board Games

Carcassonne City
Circus Imperium
Munchkin Quest
Risk
Settlers of Catan
Talisman

Card Games (Collectible & Trading)

L5R
Magic the Gathering CCG Tournaments
Highlander

Card Games (Traditional)

Epic Munchkin
Munchkin Bites
Munchkin Booty
... more Munchkin sets, if not all, will be on hand as well!
Chez Geek
Chez Dork
Chez Goth
Chez Guevara
Are you a werewolf
Grave Robbers from Outer Space
Killer Bunnies

Miniature Games

D&D Tournament

Role Playing Games (RPGs)

GURPS
R.P.G.A.
Pathfinder
Vampire Live Action
Paranoia

Video Games

LAN party (bring your own hardware to play)
Networked PCs
Video Gaming
I'm a just a touch surprised that D&D 4e isn't being played there. Unless that's D&D Tournament and I'm just drawing a blank on the name.

It's probably wrong of me, but I want to get a t-shirt made which has "The Gaming Den" Along with a rooster inside a barrel. Then maybe the "Say bad things about you on the internet" quote on the back.

I suspect that the basic dungeon crwal type modules that are popular at D&D concentions are being considered more as mini games than as role playing games. You basically fight/fight/fight until your character dies. I would hardly call that "role playing." They have been popular at conventions since 3E.

Dissapointed that there are no Puffing Billy tournaments. The Mayfair train games (Empire Builder, India Rails, ... and even the exotic ones like Iron Dragon and Luna Rails) are always fun to play.
