ICv2 has never and will never mean a goddamn thing

seriously they say this shit is based off of "interviews with retailers, distributors, and manufacturers" and then release those incredibly silly little charts. there's nothing about actual numbers or what their methodology is. it's the equivalent of some fatbeard stroking his whiskers and saying "hmmm yess based on a few people I've talked to I can say definitively that X is doing better than Y across the nation"

in other words please stop taking ICv2 as proving any point about sales

Hear, hear! Let's get back to intelligent discussions like how many millions there are in "hundreds of thousands".

You haven't been around here long enough. It's a reference to a retarded argument made by TitanumDragon. I don't remember the specifics, but he was basically referencing 4E sales figures and saying "hundreds of thousands" sounds bigger than "millions".

The specifics are found in the Dark Sun thread, found here.

By the way, apropos of the "My Little Pony" talk recently, there's this:

Not sure why people are claiming it's an April Fool's Joke when it was done almost a week ago on an MLP fansite.

Let's not; it sounds too close to the political arguments where someone talks about reductions of "hundreds of millions" as a way to seriously reduce a deficit of over a trillion.

I mean hundreds of thousands and millions are only off by a factor of 10, not 10,000.

Thanks to the reworking of of how the level loss works, True Rezzy is ONLY useful if you don't have even a scrap of the corpse.

If you have a complete corpse; Raise Dead + Gr Resto. Scrolls cost 13,400 gp. Casting time 2 min

If the vic has been dead awhile, killed by a death effect, or you only have a peice of the body, (Disintegrate dust counts); Ressy + Resto. Scrolls cost 13,975. Casting time 11 min

True Rezzy, Scroll costs 28,825 (more than double) casting time 10 min.

True Rezzy can restore elementals and outsiders, which, IMO, is the primary function of the spell now.

If you really want to raise on the cheap, you can get a Raise Dead and two Restos. But you can't use both Restos in the same week.
Just another little change to keep track of.

I find 'True Rezzy' really obnoxious sounding. That's all I take away from that.

So in other words, even their AF joke was just stolen from someone else and reprinted? That's typical for a company who just dig through other people's trash for their rules.

I doubt it. The people playing Pathfinder are the 3.5 diehards who wouldn't have played 4E regardless of if PF existed or not. They're similar to the 2E diehards who buy games like Castles and Crusades or Hackmaster because they explicitly didn't like 3E.

What surprises me most about that table is how well Dragon Age and the 40K games are doing, and that White Wolf isn't even on the map anymore.

It's because nWoD sucks. It's horrible they fixed none of the mechanics, and shat upon the entire setting.

To change the topic back to mechanics, a friend of mine has decided that Pathfinder is the mechanically superior successor to 3.5. He's citing some sort of reverse Oberoni fallacy (I'll get him to rephrase it later, this is from a discussion a few weeks ago and I may be misrepresenting him) that because you can't have a perfect game, you need the MC to repair it, thus mechanical problems aren't so big of a deal because it's expected the DM will fix them.

Anyway, to show how wonderful Pathfinder is at fixing wizards, I'm playing an elven diviner (level 1) with an emphasis on going first via foresight & spamming save or sucks. I might start an in the trenches thread about it, I'll let you all know how it goes.

It's all about the Vidya Games, man.
Both Dragon Age and WH40K can pull from the video game market for customers. D&D can't because for some unfathomable reason, they haven't created a game based off of 4E yet.

2011Q1 is going to be interesting.

They posted some vague details on their "Beginner Box" set:

The 80 tokens + reusable map sounds handy, at any rate.

EDIT: The price point is $35.

Looks like 4E is finally getting a video game, for download.

It's pretty much an action title like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.

Interesting tidbit in one of your links, the box set comes with "A complete set of 7 high-impact polyhedral dice". One wonders what the difference is between high-impact and regular dice. Why do they need high-impact dice, do Paizoans have a temper problem?
Oh thank God, finally a thread about how Fighters in D&D suck. This was a long time coming. - Schwarzkopf

I think this has to do with the edges on the dice. They have very sharp, non-curved edges. It might make them roll less, but I'm not sure.

Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale

Defeat the dastardly demons delving the dangerous deeps of the Darkbad! Despair at the dread destiny awaiting you! Do the Dew!

I think Daggerdale is the name of a town in Forgotten Realms? Where the game is being set?

Also, I've watched trailers for this game, and, honestly, it looks like shit. The animations are terrible, and the game doesn't look primed to deliver anything new.

I get that. Its just that it sounds silly. At least they didn't pick Neverwinter for that one too.

Mind you, fucking FR again?

FR is just "generic D&D setting #12" as far as the computer games are concerned.

It's interesting that their beginners kit sounds almost exactly like the 3.5 starter kit, swapping the plastic minis for cardboard tokens.
