I like how he banned divination and teleportation. No seriously, he's very neatly cut off your ability to play on a strategic level. The contestants are stuck making tactical moves, and that's not a winning strategy.

Holy crap, I just read how he said that:
It's not a flavor rule, and the reason it's not working is explicitly stated, albeit indirectly, in the description.

Wow. Just wow.

Current pet peeves:
Misuse of "per se". It means "[in] itself", not "precisely". Learn English.
Malformed singular possessives. It's almost always supposed to be 's.

With a side-dish of 'someone not understanding that tackling City of the Spider Queen with an all-melee group is decidedly sub-optimal'. Or how to take best advantage of CLW sticks. Or, well... just about anything.

An interesting thread. It's like he's trying to "take 20" on his intelligence check the way he keeps defeding his undefendable position. Eventually he rolls a "20."

"whel you guys seem to no what your talking about" (sic)

Well, I suppose that's as good as it's gonna get.

Ima gonna makes you dumb:

also when they get improved evasion they do oblirate spell-casters because even if they felled ther save they still only take half damage
classes that dont have evasion make a sucsseful save and they still take half damage

plus with the right combo of feats they can at the very least keep up with a warrior

Ah! I ar stupidr 4 redding tht. Thnx.

If by warrior he means the NPC class, then he may actually be right.

No, the Warrior NPC class makes a better fighter than a Monk.

Here's a link to post#34, where babysamurai joins the above thread, because having to scroll through the rest of that garbage is a waste of time:

FIGHTARZ R T3H W1NZ! wrote:With that unarmed fighter, I will hit every one of those opponents with most of my attacks.

Remember that I have not purchased much gear so even if the opponent fly or attacks me with one of its spells, it is possible that I can deal with it. I haven't purchased any armor yet so my AC can still go pretty high.

Pit Fiend
AC 40
HP 225

Balor
AC 35
HP 290

Nightwalker
AC 32
HP 172

Storm Giants
AC 27
HP 199

My attacks will hit most of the time for 33*8 = 264 total damage (actually more if I switch to Flay Foe). That's without Power Attack.

Since this is a team effort, I can take on either the pit fiend or balor with ease.

The nightwalkers are even easier. The rogue is SOL since his best attack option is now gone. The cleric and wizard can take on one each while I deal with the other two. Of course this depends on me going first, then the cleric and wizard.

The storm giants are even easier. I can power attack for so much that there isn't much they can do.

I know each of those opponents have reach. That's probably the primary reason you chose them. If you honestly can't think of what to do with that build (or any other thrown out there), then the fighter is really not the best class choice for you.

Whether people like it or not, getting hit is a contribution. It is actually a common tactic used in battle all the time. I remember a phrase from Basic Training: "Move out soldier and draw fire!" Sometimes someone has to be the one to charge the machine gun nest so that everyone else has a chance to do their thing. The fighter can do that, and survive to do it again. The fighter can also take out that nest, or at least part of it, depending on what's there.

Oddly, he's right on the last bit. Taking hits really is a contribution. The big question is "so...I attack you why?"

I would even go so far as to say that it is their primary contribution.

The problem with the morons over there is that all they see is numbers. They have no understanding of how the game is actually played, they just compare monsters full attacking you and taking full attacks back, and from there they conclude that the fighter is balanced.

It's not that their logic is flawed, though it often is, but their premises are blatant lies.

It's not a blatant lie if that's the way they play the game, though.

Then what is it when you walk in with an un-optimized Cleric or Wizard and make them totally irrelevent?

Well actually it is a blatent lie. It's also a logic error, because they are asserting a general from a specific. Numbers aren't everything because combat also assume tactics.

If you can argue that "If A uses X then A beats B" then you can argue that B knows this argument as well and there is no way in hell B is ever going to get into a situation like that.

Example: Tic Tac Toe. Hmm better put this in a spoiler, wouldn't want to ruin people's fun of the game.

There is no way in hell I'm going to let you go first because if you go first and take the center square there is no way for me to win. Assuming you have half a brain and don't pull the obvious mistake.

Good players have good tactics. Good charcters need to be optimized to the situation du jour not the sutuation du straw man. Since the situation can change from one extreeme to another, there always exists some scenario where shit happens! When the random factor enters in the odds increase.

The end result from history: Min/Max all you want but Operation Market Garden was still a dismal failure in WWII for the Allies. Of course if you create the straw man scenario the Allies win and the war is over one year eariler.

Are you sure you're making an un-optimized cleric or wizard? Are you multiclassing with stupid shit because it sounds like a cool concept? Are you loading up on evocation spells because rolling lots of d6s at once is teh awes0me? are you ignoring polymorph (and its ilk) because it confuses you too much? Are you taking the Healing domain because you're the healer and you want the flavor?

What the majority of people here consider un-optimized will indeed kick the ass of lots of things; but it's not anywhere on the level of the wizards and clerics that get made out there.
