Isn't "Feat: Any" part of what keeps rogues playing the same game in higher levels? I thought they were playing the same game only when:

a) throwing a kajillion touch attack sneak attacks per round

b) making use of their Abuse Magic Device skill to fake being a Wizard/Cleric

c) using Epic feats they don't qualify for

There is a key difference. With "bonus feats" the example list actually is the feat list. So any feat you happen to choose as your bonus feat is definitionally in line with the examples so long as it actually on the feat list (that is to say: in a published WotC product). With the Sarrhuk, the example list is in the ability itself, so the vast majority of things you would want to give are actually extrapolations from the list - the equivalent of writing a new feat.

Now, you can totally write a new feat, and Sarrhuks can totally grant abilities that aren't on that extremely limitted list. But you're in "run it past your DM" territory either way. Pun-Pun is in fact the equivalent of writing a feat:

Be Totally Awesome
How awesome? So awesome!
Prerequisites: Crazy high. Character level 100. 90 ranks in Knowledge: Dungeoneering. Must be a god.
Benefit: While playing D&D, you win.

...and then taking that feat with your Rogue bonus feat. Sure, that is technically within the scope of a DM to allow. But I'm not holding my breath until that happens and I don't see why anyone would give a damn if it actually did.

Yeah. There's that too. Skill Mastery: Use Magic Device and Perfect Multiweapon Fighting are the bread and butter of a 13th level Rogue. And they are still barely holding on while facing a Death Sladd atop a Titanic Toad mount.

P.S.: could you explain why'd the death slaad be so hard to beat? Doesn't look like - kill the slaad (assumes initiative, but the rogue should have at least +10 by level 13), possibly in one round (I suppose Rapid Shot works just fine with flasks), then snipe the toad with its awesome land speed. Where am I supposed to be wrong?
