"Hm...I'm not sure they're full beholders... seem too small. A beholderkin that small is typically pretty weak. We might be able to take them."
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Red_Rob wrote:"Well, we should at least go one at a time. That way we'll make less noise, and if they wake up the others can escape. Cadwyn, can you keep Madoc quiet?"
Cadwyn shakes his head. "I don't know if I can. She might decide they're toys to play with. And she's half horse, she can't move if she gets low to the ground. We can double back and I'll cut through some walls. It's safer."

"Let me go first. There's still something about this that isn't right to me..." All at once, the constant sussurrus of Jes' spiders stops, leaving behind an eerie silence as her swarm flattens close to the ground and creeps into the room to examine the floating balls closer.

Jesrula skitters silently down the corridor, her centipede familiar surfing the body-mass on top. From below, the yeasty odor of the tunnel is stronger, as well as a faint smell of rotting meat and the scent of...something else. Tiny eyes look up at the floating orbs - they don't seem shrunken or saggy, the skin is taut, even puffy; but the fungal encrustions around their eyes and mouths are much greater than she could see from a distance...a few of them even have strands of luminescent lichen dangling off them.

Jes will skitter back and relay, adding "If those things are beholders, they need some feminine hygiene products. I think we can take them, but we should do so at range."

"Well, last time I tried to sneak I almost lost my position, so perhaps fighting is better than subterfuge. I can lay down a fireball or blind them to begin with, and then perhaps breathe acid on them."

[How long is the beholder-filled segment of hallway?]

The hallway is only ten feet long, and the first of the floating eyeball creatures is only two feet away, and they float relatively close (<1 ft) to each other. The full line of nine (9) creatures thus extends down the hallway into the 4-way beyond - about twenty feet long in toto.

Berry digs in her pack. "Cadwyn, if we decide to sneak and you need to keep Madoc quiet for a bit, I have some extra food that I don't eat."

Kai whispers hoarsely

"So, are we going for blast or sneak? Do you have any useful magic Master Archibald? Something deadly, or that will help us remain silent?"

The sound of grating stone comes to your group from down the corridor, at the end of the line of floating eyeball-creatures.

"If you're blasting, I'm leaving." Cadwyn whispers. Then he leads Madoc further back, turning the previous corner, and the one before that.

Berry looks expectantly at Archibald to see whether he is ready to unleash his wizardly might.

"Did anyone else hear that grinding noise?"

Kai stands just behind Archie in case of firey death.

"Well, here goes nothing." Archie will back away as far as he can then chuck a fireball down the corridor, centring it on the end of the beholder-group

Back pressed against the wall, Archie aims the staff carefully and lets loose a fireball toward the end of the corridor, some twenty-five feet away. The explosion engulfs six of the orbs, which unexpectedly burst with thunderous booms - so loud in fact that the explosion of sound causes the seventh to explode as well...which sets off the eighth...the ninth...Archibald has barely enough time to scream when the sonic shockwave and poisonous spores hit him. (-22 hp...I think that might be game over for Archie)

Jesrula and Berry, standing close to Archie, also catch part of the blast (-15 hp each).

[Berry is immune to poison if that means anything.]

Berry is buffeted by the blast and releases an involuntary jet of steam. [Down to 17 hp.]

Jesrula's spiders are burst apart by the blast, and fall to the ground. They don't move. (-11 hp, unless you rule Discorporation is an immediate, rather than free, action)

After Berry recovers, she checks Archie to see if there is anything she can do. When it becomes clear there isn't she sits down and begins looting the body into an orderly pile. "Kai, are you okay? I'd offer you my rod, but I don't think it works on flesh."

{When you find a PC mage, please try finding out whether the staff's high-end powers work for anyone. I still have some totally rad ideas for our demon army.

EDIT: Oh, and I really don't recommend trusting the rat now. I suspect he's more dangerous than we've seen, and has a bluff check bonus we are unlikely to beat.}

Kai picks himself up and quickly checks himself for serious injuries.

"Ah. Ow. That's the most anything's ever hurt and not broken anything. Is everyone else okay? Cadwyn? Jes? Master Archibald? Master Archibald!"

Kai rolls over Archie and tries to rouse him.

"Another victim of the Mad God, one more soul to add to the tally. He reminded me of the monks from back home, like he always knew what was going on. He deserves a ceremony, but I don't even know the burial rites of his people."

Kai will gather his body up once Berry has taken off anything that we could use and carry him until we find somewhere he can perform a short ceremony.
