Yeah. Extra "quote" tags will enclose posts made after the original, while extra "/quote" tags will bump your text right out of any post at all.
Adding more "/quote" tags will close the open "quote" tags from an earlier post, but you have to have at least one "quote" tag in a post for the software to notice any "/quote" tags.
