Curious to know what your favorite artists are, could be people who already do RPG's or people who do other things but you'd want them to work on RPG's.
Tony Diterlizzi & Brom

Jean Gireaud, AKA Moebius. Granted, he's dead so it could be difficult to arrange that.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Brom, RK Post and Wayne Reynolds. Though for something more whimsical, Ursula Vernon and Tony Diterlizzi would be a good combo.
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Actually, thinking about it, if they were up for it, I would love to add Phil and Kaja Foglio to the hypothetical whimsical project.

Adam Brandejis keeps doing the most relevant work of any living visual artist....but he's not an illustrator, so now I'm wondering what sort of RPG would have animitronics, interactive marketing campaigns and installation pieces in place of illustrations....
For something a lot more plausible, this guy:https://m.facebook.com/KlunkArt is probably just barely in the range I could afford if I were to self publish an RPG.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."
Wen-M, the dude who does the Anima art.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Damn, now I need to make a good horror adventure fantasy game and kickstart enough for that art lineup.

As long as we're talking about things that won't happen... Zombie Kay Nielsen.
I'd want shit to get weird.

I'd want Masamune Shirow to do all character art, where it's basically a drawing of a person doing a thing or some people fighting or whatever. I know, I'm contractually obliged at this point to go "BOOBIES!"
If it's a sort of sci-fi thing then I'd say "Fuck it, Masamune can just do everything". For fantasy worlds though I'd get maybe Sara Catena or Thomas Kinkade to do world art and the little sidebars of "this is just a foresty place you might visit" and things like that. Or go through some children's books that have a lot of vivid colour and look for the artists of those.

With Hellboy concluding, Mignola's said he's going to focus on painting to see how good he is at it.

Mike Mignola for horror/modern fantasy, your dime a dozen ecchi weeb artists for an Exalted heartbreaker or a Street Fighter RPG revival, and Hajime Ueda/Yoshitaka Amano for weird fantasy.
If I wanted a generic fantasy heartbreaker, I'd just get the monkeys that do art for 5e, as it's the only good thing about the edition.

Rebbecca Guay.
I actually think Wayne Reynold is some worthless tripe, at least in his recent use as a frequent front-man. Dude has an obstinate refusal to depict bodies, clothing, or armor that makes any fucking sense, and an understanding of emotional complexity that extends only about as far as "people sometimes choose to show their teeth for some reason???"
He is fine when you need a picture of some menacing fuckhead whose mid-strike pose is luckily not one of the ones which would threaten self-laceration by way of sheer-steel codpiece, but for building a real look-and-feel this guy is not breaking my top hundred.

Most of these picks for artists are good ideas, even if some are retro-nostalgic ones; but there's always room for others
For technical things: Chriss Foss
For organic things: Wayne Barlowe
If we're going totally fantasies for artists; golden age illustrators like John Singer Sargant might be interesting to see their take on science fantasy content.
